Fundación EDP Liberbank are main sponsors to the celebration of the events framed in Covadonga Centenarios 2018. Both entities will contribute up to 200,000 euros to support the commemoration of the three events linked to the Real Sitio that coincide this year: the 1,300 years of the origins of the kingdom of Asturias, the century of the declaration of the National Park of the Mountain of Covadonga and the centenary of the canonical coronation of the Virgin.

The president of the Principality, Javier Fernández, and the CEO of Liberbank and president of Fundación EDP, Manuel Menéndez, signed a collaboration agreement today whereby both entities will contribute to finance all the planned activities. The fact that the centenarians were declared an event of exceptional public interest offers fiscal benefits for cultural patronage.

As stipulated in the document, Fundación EDP Liberbank will contribute financially, jointly, among others, in the following activities:

- Production and broadcast of a documentary about the XIII centenary of the origins of the Kingdom of Asturias and the role of the Asturian monarchy, of approximately 50 minutes duration and adequate content to be used as educational material in schools. The documentary, which will be broadcasted by the Radio Televisión del Principado (RTPA), will include references to the battle of Covadonga and the election of Pelayo as monarch, among other milestones.

- Production and broadcast of a documentary about the centenary of the creation of the Covadonga Mountain National Park, which lasts approximately 50 minutes, with images of the natural space in different seasons and from different perspectives, which will include some unpublished images taken by drones. The documentary will be broadcast in schools and by the RTPA before the end of the year.

- Creation and printing of a historical comic on the origins of the Kingdom of Asturias, aimed at children and young people. It will have a wide circulation and all copies will be delivered to the Ministry of Education and Culture.

- Financing of various services for the institutional events of September 8, Day of Asturias, in Covadonga.

For its part, the Principality will make reference to Liberbank and Fundación EDP ll official communications, supports, posters and information panels, as well as on the institutional website, to recognize them as collaborating bodies in the main and exclusive acts and sponsors in their scope of activity.

The celebration of Covadonga Centenarios 2018 includes a program of more than a hundred activities articulated in five main areas: cultural events (66), liturgical celebrations and days (26), sporting events (16), institutional events (10) and tourism promotion (7). The importance of these dates places the focus of attraction on the Principality and represents an opportunity for the whole of the citizenship to expand their knowledge or discover the heritage, historical, cultural and environmental wealth of Asturias.
