Five runners with visual disabilities will participate in Behobia

Monday 05, November 2018

The athletes will be accompanied in the race by guides registered in the platform www.compartetuenergia.com, which has more than 2,500 registered runners

The Behobia - San Sebastian that takes place this Sunday November 11 will have among its participants five pairs formed by blind corridors and volunteer guides, thanks to the initiative "Comparte Tu Energía (Share your energy)" promoted by EDP. The runners with visual disabilities, four men and one woman, come from Madrid, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Navarra, and run with other running fans who signed up at www.compartetuenergia.es to share training and races with runners who need guides to be able to enjoy this sport.

This initiative, barely a year and a half old, is part of EDP's commitment to sport and the dissemination of solidarity values, so that all people have the possibility of practicing a physical activity above any obstacle. Athlete Martin Fiz or journalist Cristina Mitre, who will be at the race, have also shown their support for this program.

Currently, more than 2,500 people are registered on the platform, of which 150 are blind. In the Basque Country, "Share your energy" has 200 registered people, of which 8 are blind. Two of them, Iñaki Goñi from Guipuzcoa and Javier Domínguez from Bilbao, will participate in the Behobia-San Sebastián on Sunday.

Information about "share your energy" will also be present at the Race Fair, which this year will be located in Ficoba. EDP, the main sponsor of the race, will have its own space in the area where, in addition to this initiative, various leisure and sports activities will be offered.

The activities of Ficoba will be available all Friday, November 9, in uninterrupted hours from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and on Saturday 10, between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm. Access will be free for all people at Irun fairground (Avenida de Iparralde, 43).

Among activities that EDP will offer is the "Challenge before the race", in which a couple must compete with each other to reach the goal beforehand through a fun videogame. "Share your effort" will test the capacity of work in common and shared effort of two people: each one on a connected static bicycle, they must pedal with enough energy to raise an object.

In addition, people who come to the site can play a game of "snookball", an original game that combines the rules and equipment of football and billiards. The playing field is a huge oversized pool table and it consists of throwing a white ball so that, bouncing, the other balls go into the holes of the table.

The site also hosts a space for "Runner Icon", a petition aimed at getting Internet search engines to incorporate the "running" option when searching for a route, already with more than 7,800 signatures.

Finally, people who so wish will also have the opportunity to share their wishes in a more visual way. "Share your podium" you may choose an avatar and get on the podium installed in Ficoba to take a picture with. There will also be a space for visitors to leave written messages of support for the sport and athletes.

People who participate in snookball activities and "Share your effort" will receive a gift related to the world of running. Likewise, promotions and free bibs for customers and new EDP customers are available at www.edpmaratones.es.

EDP, one of the main sponsors of the Behobia-San Sebastián, has an offer for the first month of consumption of free electricity for new customers, and a promotion to increase in savings for its current customers with the "Fórmula Máximo Ahorro 24 h". Information about these promotions is available at www.imaginatuenergia.es.
