The EDP DesafíOSOmiedo allocates 650 bibs out of more than 2,000 applications

The race organization holds a raffle to allocate the race bibs (300 for the ultra and 350 for the marathon)

The 7th edition of EDP DesafíOSOmiedo, that will be celebrated on July 27 in Pola de Somiedo (Asturias) already has 650 race bibs allocated (300 for the ultra-distance and 350 for the marathon), of a total of 800 vacancies, 400 per distance.

The race opened its pre-registration on February 8 and closed last Friday with more than 2 000 applications, specifically 2 194, distributed in 806 for the EDP Ultra DesafiOSOmiedo and 1338 for the EDP Marathon DesafiOSOmiedo.

The EDP raffle DesafiOSOmiedo took place in EDP’s headquarters in Oviedo. The organization allocated a total of 650 race bibs among its two modalities: 300 for the EDP ultra DesafiOSOmiedo (UTDS) and 350 for the EDP Marathon DesafiOSOmiedo (MDS). The remaining vacancies will be distributed among autonomic selections – the 100 race bibs completing the ultra -, runners with best times and sponsors – the 50 from the marathon. The winners’ list will be posted on the race’s web, www.desafiosomiedo.com.

EDP DesafíOSOmiedo has been for a long time a regular race on the calendar of many Asturian runners, but year after year, the interest for the race increases, and it has become a much awaited date for runners from provinces all over Spain, like Madrid, Huesca, Almeria, Seville, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Ceuta, etc. The 7th edition has also received applications of runners from outside the country – the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, the United States, Mexico, South Africa… these are some of the more than 14 countries registered on the platform.

A success in number and places of origin of the runners interested in participating in the Asturian race that this year will be the Spanish Championship of Ultra individual and regional selections, the Grand Prix Inverse, of the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing (FEDME), also being part of the Spanish Cup of Ultra Races, specifically the second event of the Cup to be held.

The EDP DesafiOSOmiedo goes over the incomparable spots from Somiedo and offers in its program two modalities: the EDP Ultra DesafiOSOmiedo (UTDS), 85 kilometers long, and with 10 000 meters of accumulated slop, was won last year by Juanjo Somohano, with a time of 09:08.32, and by Azara García de Los Salmones, with 10:11:17, beating the race’s record; and the EDP Marathon DesafiOSOmiedo (MDS), 46 kilometers long, with 5 500 meters of accumulated slop, which was won in the 2018 eddition by Pablo Villa, with 04:13:51 and Sandra Sevillano, with 05:06:55.
