Jesús España, Trihas Gebre, Javi Guerra and Alberto Juzdado are among the awarded by the magazine dedicated to the running world

The first edition of the CORREDOR awards, celebrated on the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee has been an emotive reunion event for the most well-known faces in the world of international athletic. The act took place in the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee, that brought together more than 400 guests for the occasion, among whom were Ricardo Leiva, Sport’s Director of the Spanish Olympic Committee, or Raúl Chapado, President of the Royal Spanish Athletic Federation.

The act was attended by the two best runners of the Spanish History, Fermín Cacho and Carmen Valero, as well as by numerous athletes and ex-athletes, like Fernando Carro, Clara Simal, Marta Pérez, Irene Sánchez-Escribano, María José Pérez, Laura García-Cano, Luis Javier González or Miguel Ángel Prieto. The event also counted with the presence of amateur but very well-known runners, like the two-Michelin-starred chef Paco Roncero, or the three-times-boxing-world-winner, Joana Pastrana.

The EDP CORREDOR Awards rewarded Trihas Gebre and Javier Guerra as the best Spanish runners of 2018, while the talented Mireya Arnedillo was chosen in the category stand-out athlete, a sportswoman with a very promising future.

Jesús España, the man who beat Mo Farah in 2006, became Europe winner in 5 000 meters, and retired from the elite in 2018, received an emotional recognition as “legend runner”. For its part, in the 25th anniversary of the Spanish triple in the European marathon of Helsinki 2994, the organization brought two of its leaders (Alberto Juzdado and Martín Fiz) together with José Anotnio Miguelez, the photographer that captured the most famous image of that magical moment in the history of Spanish athletic. The three remembered Diego García together and signed an enlargement of the photo with the idea of raffling it and raising funds to help the athletic school club Xeye (former Iraurgi), the first club in which Diego was active.

Other winners were the International Cinema Festival of San Sebastían, the photographer Félix Sánchez, the pioneer of the athletic stores Isidro López, the organization of Zegama.Aizkorri, Egoísmo Positivo, the concept FBR of no-heel-sneakers and the most highlighted technological innovations in the runner’s world.
