The energy company will install a photovoltaic plant in the headquarters of the company in Lucena, that will enable to generate the energy equivalent to the annual consumption of 40 households

Cartonera Lucentina will cover 25% of the annual electric consumption with a photovoltaic plant. The firm has signed an agreement with the energy company EDP for the launching of an installation, that will enable to generate 145 MWh each year, the equivalent to the annual consumption of 40 families.

The photovoltaic plant, in which the cardboard company will invest more than 80 000 euros, will have a power of 99 kWp and will be located in the roods of the company in the Industrial State Los Santos.

It is a “turnkey” project, developed and executed completely by EDP, that will supply and install the elements and equipment of the plant, and process all documentation and its legalization. The energy company has also handled the aid of the Andaluan Agency of Energy.

The manager of Cartonera Lucentina, Javier Alba, has highlighted that “Cartonera Lucentina has been, and still is fully aware of the environment and the need to reduce, within its possibilities, the CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Our company has followed up closely this evolution of renewable energies, almost since its beginning, and this possibility of installing photovoltaic plants for self-consumption seems like a realistic and clear option to save energy and to fight against climate change. Choosing the EDP project and carrying it out together with them has been a relatively easy decision, not only because of the 10 years that we have been collaborating, but also because of the engagement and commitment that they have shown in terms of renewable resources.”

For the B2B Sales Director of EDP Spain, Javier Flórez, “self-consumption represents one of the energy sector’s development, and in EDP we already offer our clients the most innovative and modern solutions, so that they can profit from the advantages offered, at the same time that they reduce their energy bill and increase both their efficiency and their competitivity in the market.”

With the start up of this new plant, Caronera Lucentina will reduce its energy bill 13 000 euros each year and will thus pay off its installation in six years. Moreover, it will reinforce one of its priorities, sustainability. With electric generation for its self-consumption, it will avoid the emission of 33 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.

The agreement also includes the access to a computer system of consumption management. The cardboard company will be able to know at any moment and in real time, both the energy generated by the photovoltaic plant, and the consumption carried out in its installations. Furthermore, EDP will carry out the preventive maintenance of the plant.

The rest of the consumption of the cardboard company – up to 590 MWh – will be supplied by EDP, according to the contract that both entities keep.

The project, that frames within EDP’s innovative program “Save to Compete”, places Cartonera Lucentina as a reference company in terms of sustainability, innovation and energy efficiency.

With the installation of this plant, EDP progresses with the line of efficiency projects for companies, that aims to increase competitiveness through the reduction of energy costs. The firm also has a funding line, so that projects are financed through the savings generated.
