Thursday 06, February 2020

EDP shared its advancement in terms of circular economy strategy in a meeting organized by the delegation in Asturias of the Higher Council for Scientific Research, CSIC, and Oviedo’s Chamber of Commerce

'Circular Economy, Innovation and Sustainability' has been the main topic of the IX Transfer Innovation in Asturias, a meeting that brings together experts, scientists and entrepreneurs from several sectors to share opinions on issues of innovation, technology transfer, research and social development.

The session took place on February 6th at the Chamber of Commerce of Oviedo and EDP has been represented by Yolanda Fernández, director of Environment, Sustainability, Innovation and Quality of EDP Spain. Her intervention focused on the strategy of circular economy in the utility: “for EDP, the circular economy are the processes and technical solutions that allow us, on the one hand, to optimize the consumption and use of resources and necessary equipment to offer our products and services, and on the other, to minimize the loss of materials and energy”, she explained.

In addition, she has described the company's Circular Economy Strategy. It is comprised of 7 principles and 5 ‘circular axes’: circular consumption, waste management, collaborative platforms, circular supplies and new business models. This Strategy is part of the development of the EDP 2020-2022 Sustainability Plan to comply with the 2030 Agenda.

Along with Fernández, speakers from within the sphere of politics, business and science have partaken, such as Covadonga Pevida García, Researcher at INCAR-CSIC, who has spoken about the role of biogas in the circular economy, or Belén Cabal, Researcher at CINN-CSIC, who has done it on Ecoplackaging: new biodegradable polymer composites. After them, Fabián Suárez, Researcher at INCAR-CSIC, followed. His talk addressed the use of high-performance carbon materials from polymer waste. More representatives from the business innovation context joined the panel.

"The Chamber Transfers" are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Chamber of Commerce of Oviedo and are jointly promoted by the delegation in Asturias of the Higher Council for Scientific Research, CSIC, and the Official Chamber of Commerce of Oviedo.
