Martín Fiz and Cristina Mitre encourage to take part in the race #EDPeachauncable this Sunday

Friday 17, April 2020

The ambassador of Synchronized Cristina Mitre and the athlete and ambassador of Share your Energy Martín Fiz took part in a live on EDP Spain’s Instagram.

The initiative “EDP Echa un Cable”, boosted by the energy company, is the first “indoor” race that will be taking place in thousands of households all around the country, the following April, 19, between 10.00 and 14.00. It is a free, solidary, and non-competitive race. The goal here is to contribute as allowed by the physical and space possibilities from one’s home. That is how it was explained by Europe’s and the World’s Marathon’s champion, Martín Fitz, in the live that took place on EDP’s Instagram, with the journalist, podcaster and runner Cristina Mitre.

It is not even mandatory to run, walking is enough, as the important thing is to sum steps to the initiative. The goal is to sum 10 million steps, that will be transforming into 50 000€ that EDP will donate to Cruz Roja Spain, in order to promote the employment after the Covid-19 crisis. To collaborate, one only needs to upload to his social media a screenshot that shows the steps walked or ran during the established timetable. In order for EDP to register them, it is necessary that the message has a configuration of the privacy that allows it to be seen, and to write the hashtag #EDPechauncable, and another one in which one indicates his steps. For example: if you have walked 1050 steps, you should upload a photo with #EDPechauncable and #1050EnergySteps. 2 million steps are translated into 10 000€ and are ensured by EDP.

“Sport should be done at home”, stated Martín Fiz, for what he has given some advice. He has highlighted that “success is found in small details, and there is a basic one, which is hydration.” The runner recalls the importance of drinking water and juices (non-sugary, better home-made), especially if the temperature of the house is high. Fiz has also recommended moderation: “When we run at home, we should avoid to exceed ourselves in order to avoid injuries during lockdown.” Moreover, he has reminded that “we should keep discipline, it is not enough to do one hour of sport and then spend the rest of the day on the sofa.” With these words, the athlete advices to keep active, not only doing sport, but also moving doing, for example, house tasks.

Likewise, both Fiz and Mitre have showed their support to healthcare workers, investigators and scientists that make everything possible to fight against the pandemic. “The vaccine is currently the individual responsibility of each person”, assured the author of the book “Women that run.”

Finally, Martín Fiz has committed to raffle a t-shirt among all those that go over the 20 000 steps on Sunday’s race. Cristina Mitre, herself, will be raffling two of her books.

Motivation won’t lack: all that is left now, is to put one foot in front of the other the following Sunday.
