Friologic implements the largest photovoltaic system for self-consumption of Mercamadrid

Wednesday 11, November 2020

Executed by EDP, it will generate an annual saving equal to average consumption of more than 100 homes and it will avoid the emission of almost 200 tons of CO₂ every year

Friologicleading logistics operator for the refrigerated and frozen storage products, has now set up the largest photovoltaic system for self-consumption of Mercamadrid. The installation has 238 kWp of power and has been executed by EDP on the platform where Friologic has in the main supply market of the Spanish capital.

Friologic bet on saving and efficiency. This company will generate for self-consumption the energy equivalent to the average annual consumption of more than a hundred homes (363 MWh). This way, the enterprise will be able to reduce significantly the energetic cost.

This investment also enhances Friologic’s commitment to environmental protection, given that energy self-consumption will avoid the emission to the atmosphere of almost 200 tons of CO every year, a positive impact on air quality like the one made by 14.000 new trees.

The solar panels are located on the platform’s roof at Mercamadrid, over an area of 4.600 square meters. Down here Friologic has 7 storerooms which can save around 8.800 europallets on mobile shelving and a freezer tunnel. The company owns a full digitization of the administration processes, stock control and mobility.

In keeping with this digitization, EDP provided for Frilogic an innovating platform for monitoring and managing the photovoltaic system.

Self-consumption is one of the most economical energetic solutions for companies which promote its competitiveness through energy saving.

By setting in motion this solar power system, EDP upgrades its efficiency projects for companies, while offering the latest technological innovations and integral solutions adapted to customer’s needs. In addition, the enterprise has a funding line, so that the projects are financed by savings generated.
