EDP and EDPR transform their identity and link it to their commitments to energy transition

The enterprises of the EDP’s Group have now a unique image due to the company’s global presence, currently found in 28 markets. The logo has been updated to reflect the company’s commitment of being 100% green by the end of the decade.

EDP and EDPR transform their identity and link it to their commitments to energy transition.

A year after having reinforced the engagement towards energy transition, with an investment of 24 000 million euros till 2025, EDP’s Group announces a new identity, in line with the company’s positioning in the energy sector, and with its role in society.

This image shows EDP’s transformation in the last years into a more global and inclusive company, focused on the future, sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility. In this context, the group has decided to update its brand communication and internal culture, in order to assure that it keeps reflecting EDP’s evolution, as well as its ambition to lead energy transition.

The different group’s enterprises will have a unique brand identity, representative of EDP’s scope, that only in the last year has entered 12 new markets. For their part, energy distribution enterprises in Spain (Begasa, E-Redes and Viesgo) will keep their own identity.

The logo and graphic identity are inspired in the nature’s circularity, in the planet, and in the diverse renewable energy sources – the sun, wind and water turbines –, key elements to the company’s new strategy, that addresses climate change, aiming to duplicate its renewable capacity by 2025.

Furthermore, this choice represents the ambition for a circular, more sustainable economy, and requires constant innovation, much needed in the energy sector, in order to respond to the challenge of reducing the use of fossil fuels and the energy independence.

The chosen colors, green, blue, and violet, represent nature’s sustainability, green energies, technology, and people, and are in line with EDP’s goal to become carbon neutral by the end of this decade, leaving no one behind in this journey. This identity has been developed by a multicultural team from the international design agency Pentagram, with knowledge of the markets in which EDP is present.

“Throughout our history we have contributed to the energy sector’s reinvention, promoting a positive impact in society. We’ll continue to lead energy transition and the economy’s decarbonization for a better future. With the evolution that we communicate today, we want to incorporate in our image and in our actions the cornerstones of this mission, and of a fair and sustainable transition”, states Miguel Stilwell D’Andrade, CEO of EDP.

The new image has been presented exclusively to the almost 13 000 group’s employees, by the Executive Board of Directors, in an internal event addressed to all the markets in which EDP is present.

This transformation will be done internally in the first stage and will take place progressively in a process that will last until 2023.

To communicate this evolution, the international agency Havas has developed a campaign of institutional positioning. “We Choose Earth” is the manifesto, which gives voice to this change, and which intends to mobilize society in this urgent and needed transition.

In Spain, EDP’s Group directly employs 2 000 people. It is present in a generation with more than 5 000 MW installed power; in an electrical distribution, with more than 52 000 km of networks and more than 1,3 million points of supply; and a commercialization portfolio to business customers of electricity, natural gas, and services with a consumption of more than 17 Tw/year.

EDP Renewables has experimented an extraordinary growth these last years. The company has more than 2 800 employees at a global level, and is present in 26 markets in Europe, South America, North America, and Asia. With an installed power of 14 GW, EDPR maintains its strong commitment with the acceleration of energy transition through the development of renewable energies and innovation.
