The repopulation of the Asturian rivers begins

The Association of Fishers of Fuentes del Narcea and the EDP Foundation organize the first trout release in Narcea’s river

The fish restocking of the Asturian rivers has begun in Narcea with the release of 2 000 trout. The activity has taken place in the area of Los Nogales, in Cangas del Narcea, and has been organized by the Association of Fishers of Fuentes de Narcea and the EDP Foundation.

The major of Cangas del Narcea, José Víctor Rodríguez, has taken part in this release, as well as students from the Center of Support to the Integration of the Disabled of Penlés. The activity has enabled them to get to know the ´features of the released fry trout, and its importance for the improvement of the rivers’ habitat.

The president of the Association of Fishers of Fuentes del Narcea, Román Herrero, has pointed out that “it is the first release that we carry out in 2020, an activity that will continue the rest of the year, and that allows us to raise awareness about the importance of the river’s restocking in order to sustain the aquatic ecosystem and keep it in the bets conditions.”

The released specimens come from a fry center that the Association of Fishers has in Naviego. They are wild, have a length of 7 centimeters and the genetic of the Coto river, the purest of Atlantic Europe.

The Association of Fishers of Fuentes del Narcea has been taking part in the repopulation of Asturian rivers for more than ten years, meeting de calendar of the government of the Principality of Asturias. It counts with the collaboration of the EDP Foundation, which commitment with the fish restocking extends to other Asturian rivers.
