EDP launches the third edition of the musical contest EDP Live Bands in Spain

Tuesday 03, March 2020

The energy company EDP will choose a musical group that will be playing live in the NOS Alive Festival and will be able to record its first album

EDP launches for the third consecutive year the musical competition EDP Live Bands. After the success of the previous two editions in Spain and its great welcome in Portugal since 2014, and in Brazil since 2016, the contest promoted by the energy company inspires amateur groups, once again, to fight for their dream of becoming great stars on the stage.

The competition is aimed for groups of all musical genres, as long as they do not keep commercial links with record labels. The Spanish groups may register until April 10 on the contest’s website edplivebands.edp.com/espana. They must submit an unreleased track in order to participate.

Popular votes in this first stage will be open until April 26 through the web. The most voted, together with the selected by an expert jury, will continue to the following phase: the semifinal.

During this second stage of the competition, that will take place from April 30 to May 10, there will be a voting to decide which bands will reach the great final, that will be held on June 6 in the Cool Hall in Madrid as a concert, where the winner of this third Spanish edition will be chosen. In 2019, around 400 people attended this event.

Furthermore, the winner bands of the three countries – Spain, Portugal and Brazil – will get the chance to act live in the NOS Alive’20 Festival in Portugal, and to record their first album.

Last year, the contest ended with the band Beluga as the winner. After a registration stage with plenty of applications, a total of 59 semifinalist bands were selected, among which only 6 reached the live final. In the mentioned, 6 finalists performed, which were Beluga, Blonde Poulain, Carmelita, Feli and the Lemonshakers, Lady Jaque and SeñorNadye, apart from the winners of 2018, Vermú.

The participants played two of their own songs in the Cool Hall, that charmed the professional jury, formed by Catarina Varella, from Everything is New; Ramón Bobes, from EDP; Daniel López, from Mondo Sonoro; and Mónica Caballero, from Vetusta Morla, among others. The prize has enabled them to accelerate their musical career, with the performance in the NOS Alive Festival of 2019.

This initiative counts on the support of Everything is New and Mondo Sonoro as media partners. Apart from supporting the contest, collaborators will be part of the jury.

Since the launching of this initiative in 2014, EDP has boosted the music of more than 8 300 amateur groups, pushing their musical careers with performances in festivals of big international projection and labels’ recordings. Only in Spain, EDP has supported the music of more than 600 bands within the two editions celebrated.

This initiative reinforces EDP’s role as the official energy of the music and its commitment to promote national and international music.
