EDP challenges Asturian students to learn about renewable energy in their online contest “Long life our energy”

The digital contest will challenge youngsters with 20 “trivial-like” questions in four tournaments during the month of June. The free inscription for Primary and Secondary students is open until May 29, at 14.00.

The EDP Foundation organizes a new edition of the educative program “Long life our energy.” In this occasion it will be as a virtual game, and it is aimed for Asturian youngsters between 8 and 16 years old. This way, the initiative of the EDP Foundation turns 10 years old, bringing the energy world close to the youngest and taking the leap to new technologies in order to adapt to the security measures and the physical distancing required by the current health situation.

The online competition will be based on the learning or reinforcing of the knowledge about sustainable energies, of the environment’s care and the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. The tournament develops basing on trivial-like questions, and it will be accessible from any computer. The activity consists of getting right as many questions as possible in the shortest amount of time, from the 20 that will be proposed each day. The contest, that has weekly prizes, will be developing in four batches in the month of June, the days 2, 3 and 4; 9, 10 and 11; 16, 17 and 18; and finally, 23, 24 and 25.

Participants will be divided in three categories, depending to their ages: from 8 to 10, from 11 to 13 and from 14 to 16. In each call, up to 500 students may participate, and in order to answer to the questions they will have to connect between 10.00 and 18.00 the days that their challenge takes place. At the end of each game, the participant will get to know his punctuation, and after the three days, it will be announced who are the 3 winners to obtain the best marks. The prizes will be given weekly to each age category, and the three first will be receiving a tablet, a smart band and a board game or headphones, respectively. “Long life our energy!” is bringing the importance of renewable energy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals to a multitude of schools and institutes throughout the region. The EDP Foundation is encouraging thus the learning and reinforcing of the knowledges about sustainability and environment among Asturian youngsters. This digital studio is supported by the Regional Ministry of Education of the Principality of Asturias.
