Primera experiencia interactiva en el metaverso de EDP

EDP starts up the first green hydrogen generation plant in the metaverse

Tuesday 02, August 2022

It will be introduced during the Feria Internacional de Muestras de Asturias (Asturias’ International Trade Fair), through a game and learning content

The metaverse arrives to the Feria de Muestras for the first time in its history, thanks to EDP. The energy company will release in its exhibition hall the first green hydrogen generation plan from this virtual world— and it will make it through an interactive game, informative panels and learning content. This is one of the main EDP’s activities this year in the Feria, to which it adds a new corporative image and the increased lushness of its vertical garden.

EDP’s presence in the metaverse answers to its faith in innovation, focused on green hydrogen, key energy vector in energy transition to decarbonize the economy. The company has a unique and realistic project to transform its thermal power plants, turning them into strategic locations dedicated to renewable energies, storage, flexibility in the electrical system and renewable hydrogen. These installations are also represented in the metaverse with information about their transformation.

EDP’s game, developed in the “Decentraland” metaverse, consists of activating un electrolyser to generate green hydrogen. In order to achieve that, players must catch renewable energy sources – wind and solar – that they will find in their virtual adventure. “Decentraland” is a decentralized metaverse with blockchain technology, which provides total security to users.

This activity is complemented with different informative panels and learning content about EDP’s activity, which space in the metaverse was developed and designed by Polygonal Mind.

EDP’s new corporative identity will also be visible inside and out the hall, with the introduction of new colors and a new corporate logo, as well as the release of audiovisual material.

Visitors may also contemplate EDP’s vertical garden, located outside of the hall, looking lusher than the year before. It is made of 3 500 plants and has an exclusive watering and fertilizing system.

These three elements – the presence in the metaverse, the new identity and the vertical garden – reflect EDP’s strong commitment on becoming the first energy company 100% green by 2030.
