EDP invests 200,000 euros in the installation of 10 recharging points

There's something new in the University of Oviedo. EDP launched ten new charging points for electric vehicles in the parking lots of the university campuses of Gijón / Xixón and Mieres, and the School of Mining, Energy and Materials Engineering of Oviedo. This is the result of the agreement between the University and EDP, that is investing 200,000 euros in this recharging infrastructure.

The rector of the University of Oviedo, Santiago García Granda, attended the innauguration of the new points; as well as the director of Smart Home of EDP España, Antonio González-Lamuño.

For the University, "it is fundamental to lead the change towards a sustainable society and for this we have to count on the support of companies, such as in this case. Electric mobility allows us to improve the connection between campus and cities - fundamental in the case of our University - and to offer a service to our community that is absolutely committed and aware of sustainability".

For his part, Gonzalez-Lamuño stressed that "this agreement reinforces the commitment of both University and EDP for mobility. The university is a strategic community for the development and promotion of electric mobility, and with these facilities goes a step further in this regard. The new points are located in key areas and in public car parks close to the main communication channels in the region, so they will cover the recharging needs of the users of these vehicles outside their homes, performing the main recharge at home".

In the Campus of Gijón / Xixón there are four points: two located in the parking lot of the Polytechnic School of Engineering and another two in the Aulario de Viesques (Puig Adán Street).

There are five on the Mieres Campus: three on Gonzalo Gutiérrez Street and two on Rector Julio Rodríguez Street.

In Oviedo / Uviéu, the point is located on one of the road access roads to the School of Mines.

Two of these points - one in Gijón / Xixón and the other in Mieres - are fast, 50 kW, a power that allows the batteries to be recharged in approximately 15 minutes. The other eight facilities are semi-rapid, 22 and 7.5 kW. Together, this new network supports the main recharges that users of these vehicles make in their homes.

To perform the recharges, users have two options: use the EDP sustainable mobility card, which can be requested through the website www.edpmoveon.com, or a mobile device, with which through that website or from the mobile application 'EDP moveon' can manage them.

Through the web or the application you can also know the location of the points, the distance to them, their availability and the types of shot to perform the recharge, among other features.

The agreement between the University and EDP responds to the close relationship maintained by both entities for years, above all, by the scholarship program of the EDP Foundation, by which each year more than 150 students join the energy company to complete his academic training.

Currently, EDP has already installed 57 recharging points in Asturias, both on express roads and in urban environments. For this, it has reached different agreements with Asturian municipalities, institutions and service stations. In addition, it has another 20 facilities under study.

Sustainable mobility is one of EDP's priorities. This is one of the areas that will most impact the energy sector and will be essential for the decarbonisation of transport, representing a growing percentage of car sales in the world.
