Masymas launches its first photovoltaic installation for self-consumption in León
Installed in its new Villaquilambre shop, it will cover around 40% of the new shop's consumption and avoid the emission of 40 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
Supermercados masymas (Hijos de Luis Rodríguez) is committed to energy self-consumption. The supermarket chain has just opened in Villaquilambre (León) the first of its shops to have a photovoltaic installation for self-consumption. This plant, which has been installed and commissioned by EDP, will allow it to cover 40% of its annual electricity consumption, 125 MWh, equivalent to the average consumption of more than 30 homes.
The installation is located on the roof of the shop. It has a power of 105.6 kWp and consists of 320 photovoltaic panels. The rest of the energy consumed by the supermarket will be supplied by EDP, as part of the agreement between the two companies.
This installation reinforces the supermarket chain's commitment to environmental protection, one of its strategic priorities. Pelayo Pulgar, expansion and development director of Masymas, indicated that "the annual emission of 40 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere will be avoided, the equivalent of travelling more than 250,000 kilometres with a combustion vehicle".
With the installation and commissioning of this solar plant, EDP is moving forward with its line of efficiency projects for companies, offering the latest technological innovations adapted to the needs of its customers. In this way, it manages to increase business competitiveness by reducing energy costs. The company also has a line of financing, so that the projects are financed through the savings generated.
