EDP Theater Gran Vía reopens its gates to honor the collectives that have been fighting against COVID-19

Wednesday 05, August 2020

EDP Theater Gran Vía becomes the first theater to reopen its gates in Madrid’s Gran Vía Street, and it has done it with a spectacle dedicated to the collectives that have fought tirelessly during the pandemic.

Healthcare workers, policemen, drivers, delivery people, supermarket and cleaning staff have been able to enjoy the premiere of “I WANT YOU BACK”, a spectacle honoring the beloved global idol, Michael Jackson.

During the month of August, the collectives that had to continue to work during the Alarm State will be able to attend for free the Theater EDP Gran Vía, as a thank you for their work.

Carmen Fernández, EDP’s director of Marketing, Brand and Communication explains: “We are particularly excited about reopening EDP Theater Gran Vía, boosting thus culture again, and even more about doing it honoring those people who have worked sticking up for all society against the pandemic”, and adds: “We are looking forward to see the seats of our theater full again, and now, more than ever, to continue to transform everyone’s energy into donations for different social causes.”

The reopening of the theater has been done according to the safety norms indicated for these kinds of enclosures, with a maximum capacity of 75%. From now on, spectators should access the inside of the enclosure with a face mask, and the access and exit should be done orderly to avoid creating crowds. Moreover, EDP Theater Gran Vía has made hydroalcoholic gel available to the attendees. The program of each spectacle may be downloaded through the QR code, located in each of the seats of the theater, and the halls will be disinfected after every performance with a certified system.

EDP Theater Gran Vía is the first to be able to transform energy generated by the people in the hall, through sounds produced by emotions (applauses, cheers…) through a system that collects energy and transforms it into kilowatts hour. This way, each spectator turns into an energy generator, that will later be shared with the others. On this occasion, he will be transforming the energy from the performances of I WANT YOU BACK in order to donate it to projects related with COVID-19.

This show, that counts with live music, the voice of Dabeat and the spectacular dance team, led by SacMJJ, may be enjoyed in the EDP Theater Gran Vía during the month of August (Tuesdays and Fridays at 20.30h, Saturdays at 19.00 and 22.00 and Sundays at 19.00).

This action carried out by EDP sums to the others done during the pandemic in order to cope with its impact, among which some stand out, like the first indoor charity run #EDPEchaUnCable, celebrated during the confinement to favor the Spanish Cruz Roja, in which more than 2 000 people took part through social networks.
