EDP starts up its first charging points in Corvera

Tuesday 28, May 2019

There are more than 60 points in the region, all of them in public spaces

Users of electric vehicles already have available charging points in Corvera. The Council and EDP have started up the first two installations, out of the five that they had agreed on in February. The energy company will invest a total of 90 000 euros in these points.

These first two points are located in the parking of the Casa Consistorial, in Nubledo, and in the street Rubén Darío, in Las Vegas (opposite to the church of la Sagrada Familia). EDP will soon make operational the points located in the parking of the health center of Trasona; the one in Cancienes, in the main road (AS-17), near the San José building; and the one in the sports center Alfonso Rodil de Los Campos, in the street Carmen Sarmiento.

With these five installations, Corvera becomes one of the municipalities with the largest network of charging points for electric vehicles in Asturias, with approximately one point per three thousand inhabitants, located in all urban centers of the council.

“Renewable energies and their use are not a future matter, but a present one, and from the public administrations we have to make their use easier to citizens”, explained the mayor, Iván Fernández, who witnessed this morning the launching of the charging point of the town hall’s parking, together with the director of New Businesses of EDP Spain, Antonio González-Lamuño.

“To this day, it is true that there are not many electric vehicles, but we must be ready for the moment that the population starts purchasing them. Likewise, it is a message for the ensemble of citizenship: from the city hall we are also worried and environmentally aware. With the launching of this network – five points to begin with, but we expect to expand it in the future – our goal is to favor a more efficient use of our resources and to boost sustainable mobility in Corvera”, added the mayor.

For his part, González-Lamuño highlighted the fact that Corvera becomes “a reference and a strategic area for electric mobility”, both because of the number of operating charging points and because of its strategic situation in the central area of Asturias. Likewise, it underlined, about EDP’s network in Corvera, that it is one of the “installations with the most modern technology, that will cover the backup charging needs of electric vehicle users”.

Users of electric vehicles can also carry out recharges through the website www.edp.moveon.com or through the innovative phone app “EDP MoveOn”. Through the website or the app, they may get to know the location of these points, the distance between them, their availability and the type of plugs, among other functions.

The company also emphasizes that, with these five new points, EDP already has more than 60 points in the region, all of them in public spaces.

The use of electric vehicles entails multiple advantages, both environmental and economic. For its part, the efficiency of these vehicles is three times superior to the one with motor, and regarding the charging prize, savings go up to 90% in comparison to the ones of moto ones.
