The energy company EDP, founder of the compartetuenergia.com platform, had the help and support of ONCE and the Spanish Federation for Sports for Blind People (FEDC)
Next Sunday, April 7, the 20th Gran Bahía VIG-BAY EDP Half Marathon will be held, with the collaboration of Eloy Iglesias, a Galician blind runner, and their guides José Moure and Ricardo Romay, thanks to compartetuenergia.com.
The platform compartetuenergia.com, founded by the energy company EDP, was developed to allow blind people to find guides to go running, and it has the collaboration of ONCE and the Spanish Federation for Sports for Blind People.
José Moure and Ricardo Romay will accompany Eloy Iglesias to guide him in this race in which they are participating for the second consecutive year. Since they know each other, they have been training 2 or 3 days per week, and on April 7 they are facing this new challenge with great excitement.
Eloy, a 53-year-old from Valga, in the province of Pontevedra, has a story of personal triumph behind. When he was young, he lost his sight in both eyes and his right hand in an accident. However, that did not stop him from facing other challenges during his life, such as practicing professional tandem cycling, and keep fulfilling other dreams, such as running a half marathon with his guides.
These runners are an example of the more than 2,800 people registered at “Comparte tu Energía” worldwide, since the energy company EDP, in collaboration with ONCE and the Spanish Federation for Sports for Blind People (FEDC), launched this solidarity initiative. 55 of all registered people are from Galicia.
Alongside with the celebration of the 20th Gran Bahía VIG-BAY EDP Half Marathon, there will be a series of events and activities, also with the collaboration of EDP. The energy company will be present in Vigo and Baiona with its scape house. On April 5 and 6 it will be in the parking of the Museum Verbum of Vigo – Friday from 15:30 to 21:30 and Saturday from 10:00 to 19:30 -. The day of the race it will be placed in the parking of la Palma, in Baiona, from 10:00 to 14:00.
Moreover, EDP still maintains its promotion of reimbursement of the race number cost to those that change their energy contract to this company. Their customers could also get 50 free race numbers through a raffle. In total, EDP offers each year more than 2,000 free race numbers via www.edpmaratones.es.
Since 2015, EDP supports the main popular races in Spain. Since then, in only four years, it has shared its energy with more than 500,000 people that have participated in its races, which are currently more than 30.
