Ahorramas and EDP reach an agreement to deploy 450 charging points for electric vehicles in 140 centers
EDP, that will operate the points, is committed to installing chargers in all new-build points of sale that Ahorramas deploys in the future
Ahorramas, the local supermarket chain specialized in fresh quality products, has reached an agreement with EDP for the installation of a total of 450 charging points, located in 140 parking lots of Ahorramas’ establishments and offices in Spain. These charging points will be EDP’s propriety, which will oversee their installation, operation, and support. Moreover, EDP is committed to installing chargers in all the new-build points of sale that Ahorramas deploys in the future.
This action is part of the current Ahorramas’ sustainability strategy, cornerstone for the company, as evidenced by its recent membership to the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, which aims to bring the SDGs to the business sector.
Currently, Ahorramas’ recharging infrastructure comprises 114 operational charging points in 43 centers. In 2023, Ahorramas will turn in one of the supermarkets with the highest photovoltaic power installed on the roofs of its stores in the Community of Madrid and Castilla La Mancha.
With this initiative, pioneer in its sector, Ahorramas goes a step further in its engagement with the environment, and with its sustainability strategy in terms of energy efficiency.
According to Luis Ramón Vicente, Ahorramas’ Expansion’s deputy director, “this agreement with EDP es key for our sustainability strategy and energy efficiency. With this initiative, together with the one from PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) and the installation of photovoltaic panels at all our points of sale where possible, will enable our goal of 50-75% of the energy consumed at our points of sale coming from green energy sources”.
For his part, EDP’s Sustainable Mobility director, Javier Martínez Ríos, highlights that “thanks to the agreement with Ahorramas, EDP will make its recharging network grow in Madrid and its surroundings, bringing to neighborhoods and municipalities EDP’s charging offer. In addition, il will ensure a convenience recharge option, in other words, who has a pluggable vehicle will be able to charge it while shopping”.
EDP keeps increasing its infrastructure network of electric recharging points throughout different points of the Spanish territory, showing its strong commitment to keep developing this net. The recharging points are added to EDP Move On, an innovative app that enables to manage the use of charging facilities in an easy and quick way.
