Decathlon and EDP reach an agreement for the display of electric vehicle charging points
Thanks to this agreement, more than 400 electric vehicle charging points will be installed in 40 locations of the sports retailing company, distributed all across the peninsula, alongside EDP
Decathlon has reached an agreement with EDP for the installation of more than 400 electric vehicle charging points located in 39 establishments and one logistic center of the sports retailing company in Spain. This way, the charging points will be dispersed across the peninsula and will be EDP’s property, who will be responsible for their installation, operation and support.
Of varying typology, depending on the needs of each locality, once they are put into operation, there will be chargers with power ratings of 22 kW (semi-fast), 50 kW (fast) and 150 kW (ultra-fast); the latter will be available 24 hours a day for drivers. Likewise, new features are included regarding payment methods, facilitating this step for electric vehicle users, as it can be made through the Move on app, with the Move on mobility card, which users receive when registering in the application; but there will also be recharging points equipped with 'contactless' technology for payment by bank card or mobile device.
With this new agreement with EDP, Decathlon will become one of the leading sports equipment retailers to have a large network of electric chargers, thus increasing its commitment to sustainability and environmental care.
Yolanda Lara, Real Estate Director of Decathlon Spain, points out the importance of this agreement, which represents a further step in the development of the company’s Real Estate sustainability strategic plan: “For many years we have been working in the reduction of CO2 emissions in the Real Estate area, promoting many actions such as the renovation of roofs with thermal insulation using TPO and PIR, high efficiency and monitored air conditioning machines, LED lighting systems with intelligent auto dimming, as well as the commissioning of the first photovoltaic plants.
Therefore, this agreement with EDP for the installation of electric vehicle chargers is another step for Decathlon towards reducing the carbon footprint of our centers”.
On his part, EDP’s Director of Sustainable Mobility, Javier Martínez Ríos, highlights that “thanks to the agreement with Decathlon, EDP will enlarge its charging network in Spain, bringing EDP's recharging offer to neighborhoods and municipalities. In addition, it will guarantee a convenience charging option, i.e. those who have a plug-in vehicle will be able to charge their vehicle while shopping”.
EDP continues to expand its network of electric charging points in different parts of Spain, demonstrating its firm commitment to continue increasing this network, which already has more than 1,315 points and in 2022 reached almost 70,000 public recharges, avoiding more than 575 tons of CO2 and 7 million kilometers. The charging points are added to Move on, an innovative application that makes it possible to manage the use of charging facilities quickly and easily.
