EDP donates 10,000€ to Nacho Dean, leader of La España Azul, at the Feria de Muestras
Following the success of the pop-up exhibition about objects retrieved from the sea that EDP organised in Madrid, the company has moved it to the Feria de Muestras with the goal of raising the visitors’ awareness about the importance of taking care of our oceans.
Today, EDP has received Nacho Dean in the Feria de Muestras; he is the leader of the scientific expedition/association La España Azul, which is in charge of several activities aimed at protecting the oceans.
This renowned adventurer and explorer was present today at the EDP pavilion to collect the donation of 10,000€ that the company has given to the organisation he leads. This sum comes from the funds raised thanks to the selling of tickets for the world conference conducted by EDP on the 22nd June in Madrid. World leaders as renowned as Amal Clooney, Céline Cousteau, Peter Frankopan or Sophia Kianni, among others, attended said conference. Thanks to the money collected, the organisation will be able to carry on with its mission of studying and protecting the seas and oceans of Spain.
During his visit, the activist toured the exhibition that EDP has brought from Madrid and acted as an ambassador for it during his time in the capital. This pop-up exhibition opened doors this June in Madrid’s Gran Vía and was inaugurated by Dean himself. It features several objects obtained from a cleaning performed last year in Portugal during which 597 scuba divers worked for 12 hours. These figures earned it a place in Guinness World Records after recollecting more than 3 tons of garbage.
This renowned adventurer and explorer is the first person to go around the world by foot and to swim between the 5 continents. He aims to document the state of ecosystems through different challenges and expeditions to promote and raise awareness of the importance of looking after the environment. He currently leads La España Azul, a scientific and educational expedition sailing around the Iberian Peninsula and the archipelagos to register the state of marine ecosystems, focusing on plastic and microplastic pollution.
The company keeps showing its commitment to the care of seas and oceans. This very year it gave support to the cleaning of various beaches and seas in diverse places throughout the peninsula. Furthermore, it has given its aid in a second iteration of the aforementioned underwater cleaning. This time, 842 managed to recover another 7 tons of trash from the ocean floor, after 24 hours of work.
On the whole, EDP reinforces their commitment to become the first large energy company to go 100% green in 2030.
