Five and a half meters wide, two meters long, 536 inches and 720 kilos. These are the numbers that reveal the dimensions of the rear projection equipment donated by EDP to the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Gijon. The installed system will be used as an audiovisual instrument for the spreading of events, projects and ideas of the university community.

The vice rector of Material and Technological Ressources of the University of Oviedo, Marta María Hernando, and the director of the Polytechnic School of Engineering, Juan Carlos Campo, have attended the launching of the rear projection equipment, joined by the director of the electric distribution company EDP HC Energy, Luis Álvarez and the manager of telecontrol of EDP HC Energy, Pedro del Rosal.

Acquired by EDP in 2007, this system has been used for 9 years interruptedly as a system of extended visualization of the distribution network of the electric energy in EDP’s Central Office of Distribution, located in the work center of la Corredoria, in Oviedo. From this office, the company manages its electric network, more than 20 000 km long, distributed between Asturias, Madrid, Catalonia, Aragon and the Valencian Community.

This equipment represented the technology avant-garde in the wall rear projection systems. It has eight units of 67 inches each, and a technology DLP (Digital Light Processing), based on a chip that contains a matrix of micromirrors, individually adjustable, of great rapidity and sequentially illuminated through a lamp and a color wheel RGB.

For functional and aesthetical reasons, that drove to a complete remodeling of the office, the company took the decision to donate the system to the Polytechnic School.

This donation responds to EDP’s commitment and collaboration with the University of Oviedo. Among the different actions that the company promotes, it is to highlight the scholarship program of the EDP Foundation, supplied with a million euros. Every year, 175 students incorporate, so that they can carry out their internship training in the different areas and work centers of the company.
