The EDP Foundation launches “Public Art 2020”, a new ideas competition for art, design and architecture students
This first edition’s launching session, which seeks to encourage young students’ projects, will take place on July 28
The project “Public Art 2020” belongs to the EDP Foundation, and it was born with a clear objective: developing a joint artistic action that combines applying art and architectural design. This project is aimed at students that investigate, have ideas, and develop creative and innovative solutions; and it seeks to promote social inclusion through art. Besides, it goes further and it intends to involve the community, among which relationships are generated that result in a closest bond.
Another goal is to stimulate local development in the rural environment. That is shown in the location of the artistic action of this first round, which will be the Asturian town Ribera de Arriba. However, with the objective of promoting this kind of initiatives in small population centers, the idea is to celebrate it in a different location each year, generating a positive impact, not only at an aesthetic level, but also by reactivating life in those territories.
The registration opening date will be August 1, while the deadline will be October 31. The criteria for selecting the finalist projects, which will be known on December 15, are the following: economically viable actions, that combine a balance between beauty and practice, that are innovative and sustainable, and that suit the urban and social environment. The proposals evaluation will take place through a digital platform.
Regarding the recognition, the best proposal will be awarded with 14,000€, out of 3 categories up to a total of 42,000€. Moreover, the project will be executed, so it will be persistent over time.
