The new substation, with an investment of 6.2 million euros, reinforces the area’s electricity security

The Valencian power grid improves its quality and security of supply with the commissioning of a new electrical substation. The installation is connected to the 220 kV transmission grid. This is the Aldaia substation, a shielded indoor installation that is remotely controlled and fully integrated in the control and monitoring systems of E-Redes, EDP’s electricity distribution company. This new installation was made possible after a total investment of 6.2 million euros.

This installation is located in the Valencian town of Aldaia and is interconnected with the Quart de Poblet substation and the existing distribution network in the area through 10 subway 20 kV lines, in addition to the interconnection with the 220 kV transmission network of Red Eléctrica de España.

This new substation will improve both the quality and safety of the electricity supply in the area, where there are more than 1,500 supply points, mainly industrial and services.

This facility, built on a plot of almost 7,000 m2, borders with the substation of the same name owned by Red Eléctrica de España and was designed to minimize its impact on the environment, with space and reserves for its expansion, allowing the current installed capacity to be doubled.

In the Valencian Community, EDP has a total of 750 kilometers of electrical networks, close to 20,000 supply points and 5 substations connected to the transmission grid.

This investment is part of EDP’s recently presented Business Plan for the period 2023-2026, according to which the group will increase its global investment to 25 billion euros to boost renewable energies, strengthen its position in electricity grids, and support its customers in the transformation to a more sustainable world. With this plan, EDP reinforces its goal of being the first major energy company to be 100% green by 2030.
