Thursday 21, January 2016

4500 meters of electric line, 13 500 meters of cable and 400 000 euros of investment. These are the numbers that show the works carried out by the energy company EDP in the region of Ribagorza, in Huesca. EDP has built an air line of medium voltage between La Puebla de Roda and Biascas de Obarra, which improves both the quality and the quantity of the electricity supply to the consumers of the area.

The electric line, of 25 kilowatts, has bee constructed with the best materials available. It counts with 25 metallic supports, that guide and supply the 13 500 meters of cable. This new infrastructure substitutes the one securing the suppliance up till now, 45 years old and formed by 74 wood supports.

With the launching of this line, EDP leaves the grid prepared for a potential increasement of the demand in the region, and the incorporation of new energy agents, like the electric vehicle and the microgenerators.

The works have been complex, as there are areas hard to access. For this reason, the company used helicopters in same cases for the transportation of different materials.

The area where EDP has constructed the line has a a high environmental component, as it goes over the Areas of Special Protection of the Avifauna. Therefore, the design, project and execution of the work was carried out according to the Institute from Aragon of Environmental Management, minimizing the impact and in a period of time out of the breeding season and species reproduction. Moreover, the company carried out an environmental tracking throughout the worls, that will continue during the first three years of the line’s functioning.

The work was developed between June and December 2015. In the execution and apart from EDP’s staff, more than 15 workers of different collaborative companies participated, various of them local ones: Isolux Ingeniería and Uditel as assembly companies, Obras y Servicios Bolea -pruning work-, Inizia -safety and health coordination-, Helitrans -helicopter-, Ingeniería y Servicios Forestales -environmental monitoring- and Juan Ramón Espuña -truck crane-.

With this work, EDP confirms its commitment with the supply quality in the community of Aragón, through the different investment sources in the renovation and maintenance of its distribution grid.
