EDP launched a new edition for the academic excellence award in the energy field
Aimed for university students from all the markets in which the company operates, the EDP Labeleb Merit Award pretends to distinguish the investigation in different fields, like hydrogen or electric mobility
The EDP Labelec Merit Award 2023 aims to distinguish, once again, the best investigation works in the energy field. After the success of the first edition, in 2022, this award to academic excellence opens a new application stage for university students that have developed their doctoral thesis about the energy sector in any of the 29 markets in which EDP operates. The applications begin today, Tuesday, January 24, and will continue until March 30.
With the goal of promoting and distinguishing the investigation in the energy field, and, at the same time, helping to find new approaches with potential application to the entrepreneurial reality, the EDP Labelec Merit Award, will give 20 000 euros to the winner doctoral thesis.
In this second edition, the award promoted by EDP Labelec and EDP New – two companies of the group focused on the development of innovation projects in the energy field-, look for the best investigation works in six specific areas: renewable energies, networks, distributed generation and electric mobility, green hydrogen, energy storage and decarbonization.
The evaluation and selection process of the best 20 candidates will be organized by a Technic Committee of EDP, and the best five thesis will be chosen afterwards by an Evaluation Committee of EDP. In the final stage, a jury, consisting of well-known personalities from outside the company, will choose the winner doctoral thesis. All information regarding the regulation and the application process is available in EDP Labelec’s website.
With the launching of the second edition of this award to the academic excellence, EDP reinforces its mission of contributing actively to the energy sector’s development, with a clear and solid engagement with innovation and energy transition.
In the first edition of the EDP Labelec Merit Award, to which 57 applications were submitted, two doctoral theses focused on renewable energies were awarded ex aequo. Carla Sofía da Silva Gonçalves, from the University of Oporto, distinguished for her work “Renewable Energy Forecasting – Extreme Quantiles, Data privacy and Monetization” (PhD in Applied Mathematics) and Simon Camal, from the Escola MINES Paris Tech, University of Sciences and Letters of Paris (PhD in Energy and Processes), for his work about “Welfare and optimization of the supply of ancillary services by renewable energy sources.”
