Tuesday 18, July 2023

This new edition will foster especially the projects lead by women or with high potential for women employability

EDP has opened the deadline for submission of applications to the new edition of the program Entama, of support to local entrepreneurs. In this fifth edition, this initiative will continue to create wealth and employment in the municipalities where the energy company has activity.

Entama promotes equality of opportunities and inclusion, as well as environmental improvement, and it is a tool for commitment to the local community through municipality development and fight against rural depopulation. Entama keeps growing year by year, and in this 2023-2024 edition it will maintain the support to projects in the territories of Asturias, Cantabria, Lugo, Córdoba (Guadiato Valley) and Cádiz (Los Barrios), promoting employability and population fixation in areas with risk of depopulation.

Each selected project may receive up to 20,000 euros. As a distinguishing fact, it will set a special emphasis on projects lead by women and with high potential for female employability, as one of the demands collected by the company, which is clearly committed to equality and equity.

The deadline for submission of applications will be extended until September 7 and the deadline for selection of projects will end on October 20. The jury will prioritize its viability, sustainability and impact on the territory, and it will show the results on November 24, so that the projects are developed over 2024. The bases are available at the corporate website of EDP Spain and at the own website of Entama.

At this last website, there is a private area from where all applicants can upload their proposals and where there will be an area for generating synergies between the “entamadores”, so that they can expand their projects through alliances. Until now, the program has supported more than 40 projects in Asturias, Cantabria, Cádiz (Los Barrios) and Córdoba (Guadiato Valley).

From its origins, it has reached an accumulated investment of 450,000 euros. Entama is EDP’s project with the highest impact on its local communities, which has led to the UN Global Compact to grant it an award for its contribution to the SDG 11 “Sustainable Communities”. In previous editions, Entama had already helped in the implementation of a tourist train driven by a low-emission tractor to access the Brañagallones refuge in the Redes Natural Park, in Asturias; in the development of a mycological project in former mining facilities in Cádiz; in the creation of a new concept of gym in a rural municipality in Córdoba; and in the development of a digital platform for the sale and purchase of livestock, among others.

This program is part of the ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) dimensions that govern the EDP Group’s 2023-2026 Business Plan, whereby the company will invest 25,000 million euros to accelerate the energy transition by deploying more renewable energies, making the electricity system more flexible and designing innovative and sustainable solutions for its customers.
