EDP promotes inclusion, sport and sustainability with EDP Surf for tomorrow
People with special needs will be in the beach A Rapadoira, in Foz, enjoying a day that promotes physical activities and a healthy lifestyle.
Sticking to its commitment with sustainability, the seas’ conservation and social responsibility, and within its campaign ‘EDP Changing Tomorrow Now’, EDP develops its initiative ‘EDP Surf for Tomorrow’ in different regions of Spain, a sport activity that aims to offer surf as a leisure and integrating activity, as well as to promote sport and a healthy lifestyle. This project has just arrived to Galicia for the first time.
The activity has taken place in the beach of A Rapadoira, in Foz. Sensación Surf have taken part in this first edition, which trainers have been the ones overseeing that the youngsters would enjoy learning to surf through the waves, apart from teaching participants some beginner yoga postures. All this was completed with handicraft activities related to surf. The event was attended by twenty youngsters with intellectual impairment, coming from the Association Aspnais, Asociación de Padres o Tutores de Personas con Discapacidad Intelectual de Lugo (Association for Parents or Tutors of People with Intellectual Impairment).
The people in charge of the association showed since the beginning a great interest in taking part in this initiative, that results to be very positive for the integration, socialization and improvement of the psychomotor system of the group, and thus making it easier for them enjoying a day full of learning and leisure together with their friends.
EDP’s director of Brand and Communication, Carmen Fernández, points out that “this activity represents the values pursued by EDP of promoting diversity and a healthy lifestyle, all of that in a sustainable environment and a priority location for us, as it is Lugo.”
For his part, Jacobo Real, representative of the Association ASPNAIS, highlighted that “the importance of this activity for them, that, although exercising regularly, are taking their first steps in surf with EDP Surf for tomorrow and have enjoyed the sea and the feeling of freedom that this sport offers.”
This program “Surf for Tomorrow” was launched in Portugal in 2020, within EDP’s commitment with the environment, the conservation of the oceans and social responsibility, supporting youngsters on risk of being excluded. In our country, it has already been developed in Asturias, in Cantabria and, next June it will reach Andalusia.
