EDP recognized as Company of the Year in Asturias at the Avanza Awards
Organized by the El Comercio newspaper, in cooperation with the Siero Town Hall, Ontier, Banco Santander and the Principality of Asturias, these awards honor companies that create value within the region
EDP has been awarded the “Avanza Prize to this year’s best company” because of its commitment to Asturias. The fourth edition of these awards, given by El Comercio, in cooperation with the Siero Town Hall, Ontier, Banco Santander and the Principality of Asturias, highlights these companies’ contribution to Asturias’ economy. Next to EDP, other companies recognized during this edition of the Avanza Awards are Grupo Roxu, with more than 45 of experience in their business, making them one of the 50 biggest crane companies in the world, and Asturmadi, which occupies a prominent place in the market of fire doors, as the best SME.
The counsellor of Science, Business, Education and Employment Borja Sánchez attended the event representing the Principality of Asturias and highlighted “the importance of the Avanza Awards due to the awarded companies’ relevant contribution to the region, creating value, wealth and employment.”
El Comercio’s general director, Ignacio Pérez, pointed out that the newspaper shares, respects and rewards these companies’ values and plays the role of speaker for the problems and demands of Asturias’ production system.”
Pablo Argüelles, Director of Generation at EDP, was in charge of collecting the award and asserted that “EDP is a multinational company present on all continents and organized by regions, with Iberia being one of them, but it still has this Asturian component, of investing in our region. As an Asturian I am proud of this company’s commitment to Asturias, where our roots are, and we want it to remain one of the company’s growth bases.”
For EDP, this recognition is a special prize, as it not only acknowledges the company’s activity or its economic impact, but it is also the result of its commitment to Asturias. A firm and solid commitment, as are its projects in the region. Realistic and mature projects to transform thermal power plants into sites linked to renewable energies, green hydrogen, energy storage and flexibility of the electrical system. A commitment that drives EDP to proudly lead the energy transition.
It is an award for the last 12 months, but that wouldn’t be possible without the work that so many people have been doing for more than 100 years; without the strong bond that all who are part of this company feel for their land and their past, represented by historical power plants key to the region’s energy supply for decades, but also by how they look after their future, with Europe’s most advanced green hydrogen project by its scale and which holds the most recognitions from the European Commission: the Asturian green hydrogen valley.
