EDP starts up Ahorramas’ biggest photovoltaic facility for self-consumption
The photovoltaic facility, with a power of 1 800 kWp, will generate annual savings equivalent to the average consumption of more than 800 households, and avoid the emission of 1 665 tons of CO2.
Energy savings, greater efficiency and responsibility with the protection of the environment. With this goal, EDP and Ahorramas, that maintain a strong partnership in electrical mobility and renewable energy supply, take a step further towards solar energy.
EDP has installed and started up the photovoltaic plant for Ahorramas in its central platform of Velilla de San Antonio. The plant, consisting of more than 3 300 solar panels, has an installed power of 1 800 kWp and will result in an annual energy saving of 25% of the total consume for the local warehouses and central offices of Ahorramas.
With this facility, which will produce annually around 2 760 MWh, Ahorramas will achieve an important reduction of the CO2 emissions. 1 655 will be avoided, which equals to the positive impact that would be generated by 37 680 new trees, and the average electrical consumption of almost 800 households a year.
Ahorramas, in addition to improving the environmental footprint of the company, continues standing up strongly for renewable energies, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 7 and 13, of Affordable and Clean Energy and Action Against Climate Change.
To EDP, that already has self-consumption projects of more than 100 MWp in Spain, this type of strategic partnership “allows the clients to increase their enterprise competitiveness through energy saving, efficiency and protection of the environment”, affirms Miguel Fonseca, commercial advisor of EDP.
In this project, EDP has provided and installed the elements and equipment of the plant, as well as carried out all their procedures and legalization. The plant also counts with a system to monitor the energy generated. This facility is a proof of the growth of solar energy as a real solution for firms and reinforces the relation between both companies, that are long-time strategic partners.
This initiative is defined in EDP’s Strategic Plan for the 2021-2025 period, that expects investments amounting to 24 000 million euros. The investments are focused on three main lines of action: growth in renewable energy, flexibility and intelligence of energy distribution networks and a commitment to design and offer the most innovative solutions to their clients. This ambitious plan contributes to EDP’s goal of being 100% green in 2030.
