EDP strengthens its commitment to solar energy with the acquisition of Zielona-Energia.com

The acquisition of Zielona-Energia.com, with more than 58MWp installed in Poland, will allow EDP to strengthen its position in the country, which it entered in 2020.

Three months after making its first major acquisition in the Polish market, EDP Energia Polska is in the process of acquiring another company specialising in distributed generation, Zielona.Energia.com.

This step represents a further milestone in EDP's expansion strategy within the Polish PV market, bringing into the group a company with more than 58MWp installed in the country, with around 7MWp contracted in the first half of this year alone.

Founded in 2013, Zielona-Energia.com joins EDP with a portfolio of business customers from various regions of Poland. Focused on the Small and Medium Business segment, the company's current customers include schools, corporate offices or agricultural spaces.

"Solar energy will be a key lever to drive the energy transition that EDP Group is committed to lead in the 28 markets where it is present. Poland is a strategic country for this growth, where we were already developing wind projects and where, with this business segment, we aim to reach 100MWp of contracted solar capacity for self-consumption next year", highlights Vera Pinto Pereira, Commercial Director of EDP.

Combining EDP's international experience in solar energy installed at customers with the local knowledge of these companies acquired by the group allows for growth in a rapidly expanding market. The teams at EDP Energia Polska and Soon Energy, a recently acquired company, have already contracted around 30MWp with business customers since the beginning of this year.

One of the most recent and important contracts was signed with PGE Energia Odnawialna, the largest renewable energy producer in Poland. EDP, through Soon Energy, will install 12MWp solar power plants at the company's facilities in eight regions of Poland. The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year.

In 2021, in addition to consolidating its operational structure in the country and creating a commercial network with nationwide coverage, EDP contracted more than 5MWp of capacity in solar self-consumption projects for corporate customers. It now wants to grow significantly in the country and aims to be one of the leading companies in the distributed generation market in the coming years.
