Jyri Ylkanen, responsible for DG Grow’s policies in the hydrogen area in the European Union, has become interested on the details of the EDP’s project.

EDP has submitted to the European Commission its project to transform Aboño’s thermal power station into the green hydrogen Asturian valley. Jyri Ylkanen, responsible for DG Grow’s policies in the hydrogen area in the European Union, has become interested on the details of the energy company’s project, which has recently been declared of community interest by the European Commission, due to its strategic nature in the energy transition. Ylkanen’s visit has taken place as part of the program about decarbonization and renewable hydrogen, organized this week by Asturians Regional Ministry of Industry, Employment and Economic Promotion, as well as by the Asturians Foundation of Energy and the European Commission. In Aboño, EDP plans to start up 100 MW electrolysers, that may be increased to 500 MW if the market conditions allow it. This is a realistic project that aims to maintain industrial activity at the site. In addition to Aboño, two other EDP’s projects have received the same strategic consideration by the European Commission: the project from Los Barrios, in Cadiz and the so-called IAM Caecius, in Teruel. The three projects add up 225 MW of electrolysers to produce and supply green hydrogen, making a decisive contribution to the decarbonization of the economy, which drives the company to lead the European map in green hydrogen.
