EDP Solidary Energy, that evolves from the former program EDP Solidary, marks a new stage in Group EDP’s social commitment

EDP will invest more than two million euros to support social and innovative projects that promote a fair energy transition in Portugal, Spain and Brazil. This support will be provided within the framework of EDP Energy Solidary program.

In Spain, support is aimed towards innovative projects in the areas of renewable energies, energy efficiency and sustainable mobility. Moreover, those projects contributing to the development of the so-called communities in transition will be taken into consideration, that is, those located in the plants belonging to the energy company (Aboño, Soto Ribera, Los Barrios and Puente Nuevo) in the following areas: rural development and attention to the needs of the elderly.

All legally constituted entities may take part in this program, managed by the EDP Foundation. Social relevance, innovative nature and long- and medium-term sustainability are some of the criteria by which the presented projects will be evaluated. Furthermore, several collaborators, volunteers of the EDP Group, will be available to support the entities.

“EDP has a firm commitment, through its foundations in Portugal, Spain and Brazil, to incorporate in its social investment the issues regarding fair energy transition and the inclusion and energy efficiency. With the program EDP Solidary, EDP aims to reinforce and amplify this commitment and involve everyone in a process of energy transition that is fair and sustainable. This is an unquestionable path that should contribute to the improvement of people’s and communities’ lives quality, especially those that are in more vulnerable contexts”, states Vera Pinto Pereira, EDP’s executive manager.

The program EDP Solidary arises this year in line with Group EDP’s Strategy to promote a fair energy transition, and is an evolution of the program EDP Solidary that, since its creation, has always aimed to support social projects with a strong commitment with societies and communities, especially among the more vulnerable groups.

In Spain, the program was launched in 2015 and has already supported 174 projects, to which it has allocated more than 5 million euros. Among them, projects like “Energy transition, a gate for the employment of the most vulnerable”, in Caceres, that trains young people in the emerging occupations related with the energy sector, the green employment and the energy transition, easing its working inclusion, or “Renew your energy”, in Avila, that offers in-person training to technicians and managers of foundations and associations, in order to understand how the process of the carbon footprint’s calculation of each entity works, analyze its environmental impact, and design a strategy to improve the energy consumption, being thus more efficient.

In total, the more than 570 projects supported in the Iberian Peninsula have had a positive impact in the lives of almost 2 million people. EDP reinforces therefore its commitment with society through this program EDP Y.E.S – You Empower Society. It is a new global program of social investment that, with more than EUR 30 million invested each year in the whole world, brings together projects of social responsibility with the firm goal of generating a positive change in society.
