The energy meter of the EDP Gran Vía Theater, awarded in EventoPlus 2019
It is the first theater capable of measuring the energy generated by the audience, which is collected and transformed into kilowatt hours to be donated to institutions and solidarity projects
The presentation of the system that measures the energy from the EDP Gran Vía Theater in Madrid, conceived by the advertising agency Katapult, has won the bronze medal in the 2019 EventoPlus Awards, in the category of Best Promotional Event.
Carmen Fernández, Director of Marketing, Brand and Communication of EDP Spain, and Marc García, CEO and Director of Strategy and Creativity of Katapult, have collected the award at the gala celebrated yesterday in the Madrid Arena.
The EDP Gran Vía Theater in Madrid is the first theater capable of measuring the energy of the emotions generated by spectators and transform it into electrical energy to share with others. This is possible thanks to acoustic equipment, centralized in a console, which collects the energy generated in the theater and transforms it into kilowatt hours to be donated to institutions and solidarity projects.
For three years, the sounds generated at each performance (applause, cheers…) by the spectators will be captured and sent to a central table that records the variations in decibels throughout the performance and the exact moment at which they occur. To this moment, 71,064 kWh have been obtained, equivalent to the annual consumption of 19 households, which have been donated, among others, to the Comunicados Association, Mensajeros de la Paz del Padre Ángel, and to the Ochotumbao Foundation, with which Dani Rovira collaborates.
The EventoPlus Awards are the most recognized prizes in the events and meetings sector in Spain and Portugal. They aim to improve, professionalize, promote good practices of all actors (suppliers, agencies, clients) and create pride in this great sector.
