The installation of solar panels saves up to 50% on electricity bills and advances the energy transition towards a low-emission model.

Fotocasa has teamed up with the international energy group EDP to jointly launch a website that allows you to calculate the potential savings in household electricity consumption by installing solar panels. The alliance represents a commitment to energy self-consumption with the installation of photovoltaic panels, which allow clean energy to be generated and consumed during sunlight hours, saving up to 50% in electricity consumption.

"Spaniards are increasingly aware of the importance of the energy transition and the fight against climate change, which involves improving energy efficiency and household consumption. Thus, little by little, we are seeing how it is possible to reduce the supply bill thanks to renewable energies such as solar energy. With the idea of helping users who are committed to the environment and who are increasingly looking to reduce their electricity bills, Fotocasa, together with EDP, has launched a complete website to calculate the energy savings on bills thanks to the hours of sunshine that the home receives", explains María Matos, Director of Studies and Spokesperson for Fotocasa.

"At EDP we offer a turnkey solution, providing advice throughout the whole process and studying the available rebates and deductions when installing solar panels. We also manage every technical and legal step for users to consume their own energy. On the other hand, EDP also offers monitoring and control of energy consumption with the EDP Solar smart app," says Óscar Cubillo, EDP Solar's Director of Business Development and Customer Experience.

Great potential for solar power generation in Spain

Spain, with more than 2,500 hours of sunshine per year, has great potential for solar power generation. This translates into a great opportunity to invest in homes characterised by energy savings, efficiency and sustainability with photovoltaic installations for self-consumption.

According to a study carried out by EDP on the savings potential of Spanish households, 85% of households could install solar panels and start self-consuming their own energy. If solar panels were installed in all these households, the energy savings would cover the average annual consumption of more than 92 million households, which would represent 100% of electricity demand.

In addition, half of Spaniards consider it important to inform about the positive impact of energy efficient homes on the environment. In fact, self-consumption through photovoltaic installations reinforces environmental protection, as the energy generated from the sun is 100% renewable, allowing the annual reduction of almost 57 million tonnes of CO2. The positive impact on air quality is equivalent to planting 4.29 billion new trees, or 306,400 hectares of forest.

Grants and subsidies for solar self-consumption

The installation of solar panels for self-consumption in Spain has an additional incentive, the existing aid and subsidies through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which includes a Self-consumption Subsidy that covers up to 40% of the cost of the installation for individuals and up to 40% for companies (65% if the installation has a battery).

The inhabitants of some municipalities in Spain have an additional incentive, as their local councils offer a discount on Property Tax (IBI) for the commissioning of photovoltaic installations. This, together with the savings generated by the installation itself, means that the installation of solar panels can be very economical. These are municipalities such as Madrid, Majadahonda, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Córdoba, Almería, Sevilla, Lleida, Castelldefels, Palencia, ... And so on, up to 630 municipalities.

What characteristics of energy-efficient homes are most valued by Spaniards?

Citizens increasingly value having an energy-efficient house to save on their energy consumption. In this sense, 6 out of 10 Spaniards consider that energy-efficient homes
energy-efficient homes reduce their gas bills and 7 out of 10 think that this type of home reduces the price of their electricity bill. This is the result of Fotocasa Research's analysis of the importance of energy-efficient homes and the opinion that citizens have of these homes, prepared by Fotocasa.
