Francisco Rodríguez, new chief executive of EDP Grids Spain
He will be leading the company that brings together the EDP Group’s electric distribution in Spain, key to the advancement of the energy transition
Francisco Rodríguez, who until now held the position of director of People, Organization and Workplace for EDP Spain, is the new CEO of EDP Grids Spain.
Rodríguez takes office in the company’s electric distribution activity in Spain. He is substituting Miguel Mateos Valles, who will soon retire after a brilliant career in the Group, where he took his first steps in December 1982 at the Soto de Ribera power plant.
The new chief executive is an engineer, graduate of the Madrid Polytechnic University, and holds a postgraduate degree from l’École Supérieure d’Électricité in Paris, through which he specialized in energy systems. He has wide international experience in management, regulation, business development and institutional activities.
Francisco Rodríguez will be leading important challenges that lie ahead of the company in Spain, key to advancing the energy transition. To achieve this, EDP Grids’ Business Plan projects an investment of 530 million euros in the country in the span of three years, meant to improve power grids and to adapt them to the deployment of new renewable and storage facilities through a firm commitment to their digitalization.
EDP Grids Spain brings together the EDP Group’s electric distribution activities in Spain through the companies E-Redes, Viesgo Distribución and Begasa. This partnership arose in 2020 as a result of the alliance between EDP and the investment fund Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets. EDP keeps 75.1% of the partnership’s shares and oversees their management, as well as the assets’ control and consolidation, while Macquarie Super Core Infrastructure Fund holds a 24.9%.
EDP Grids Spain administers more than 52,000 kilometers of grids and 1.4 million supply points in the nine regions where it operates through its three distributors. It is a leader in supply quality, registering the sector’s lowest SAIFI thanks to the investment efforts of recent years. In addition, it is the leading European electric distribution company in sustainability according to the GRESB index, where it scored 99.7 points out of 100.
