The Laboratory of Visual Electronic sums EDP Foundations’ sponsorship to this edition

The EDP Foundation collaborates with the L.E.V. Festival, or Laboratory of Visual Electronic, in the patronage of an audiovisual installation located in the Iglesia de la Laboral in Gijón, renamed for the occasion “EDP Foundation’s Space – Iglesia de la Laboral”. It is the production “Melting Memories: Engram (data sculpture)”, from the artist Refik Anadol.

The vice counselor of culture of the Principality of Asturias, Vicente Domínguez; the CEO of the EDP Foundation, Vanda Martins; and the manager of the entity in Asturias, Ángel Moraleda, have inaugurated the installation today, together with members of the collective Datatrón, Cristina de Silva and Nacho de la Vega.

The collaboration of the EDP Foundation will enable, for the first time in Spain, to enjoy this exciting project, that revolves around the materiality of memories, and offers new perspectives of representation for the visualization of data, a perfect dialogue between science, art and technology.

Refik Anadol, man with Turkish origin, settled in Los Angeles, is a brilliant audiovisual artist, that reconsiders in his projects a new aesthetic, technic and dynamic perception of space. Anadol’s installations do not only address a productive combination of technology and art, but also a deep preoccupation towards the study of human memory, from the ancient Egypt until Blade Runner 2049. The title of the exhibition, “Melting Memories”, makes reference to the artist’s experience with unexpected interconnections between fundamental philosophic pieces, academic investigations and works of art that have memory as their main issue.

The exhibition will be open to public from April 29 till May 5 at the following times: from April 29 till May 2, from 12.00 to 21.00; on May 3, from 12.00 to 01.00; on May 4, from 12.00 to 00.00; and on May 5, from 12.00 to 21.00. Access is free.
