Norauto and EDP unite in their commitment to self-consumption
Norauto will avoid the emission of more than 290 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year, thus strengthening its commitment to sustainability
Norauto, a leading company in car maintenance and equipment, commits to energy self-consumption with the help of energy company EDP, world leader in renewables. The company, specialized in repair and sale of car tires, wheel rims, shock absorbers, spare parts and personal mobility vehicles, will boost savings and sustainability through this agreement to install photovoltaic panels in its facilities located in Spain.
Self-consumption is one of the energy solutions with the greatest potential for savings, both for companies and manufacturers and for homes. The total installed power amounts to 1,443 MWp, and the collaboration between both entities will produce almost 2,100 MWh a year while avoiding the emission of 293 tons of CO2 every year, an impact on the air quality similar to that generated by 1,815 new trees.
This is another step on Norauto’s commitment to renewables and in their deployment of photovoltaic plants for self-consumption in their stores and workshops. Their first Autocenter equipped with a photovoltaic plant was the one in Islazul, in the Community of Madrid. From now on, a total of 26 Autocenters will also have these plants, thus taking another step towards energy self-sufficiency.
This alliance is based on an As-a-Service model, where EDP is in charge of the investment, as well as of maintenance and operation, and with the establishment of long-term contracts adjusted to Norauto’s needs.
Jose Ramón Sánchez, Norauto’s director of Development and Expansion, has expressed that “the company’s goal is to deploy these photovoltaic plants in most of its operating sites. This commitment is framed within the Sustainable Development Plan that the company is pushing forward, which advocates for lowering energy consumption and reducing the company’s impact on the planet as far as possible. It is estimated that energy generation will cover up to 30% of each Autocenter’s total consumption.”
Javier Flórez, EDP’s director of Big Account sales, highlighted that “as a company, we are firmly committed to the energy transition, which we lead, and alliances such as this are fundamental to our company’s achievement of decarbonization goals. In EDP, we keep working in the search for innovative and custom-made solutions for their customers, solutions with which to provide an adequate response to the different challenges we face through the implementation of more sustainable practices.”
This agreement is framed within EDP’s Business Plan for the 2023-2026 period, through which it intends to accelerate the deployment of renewable energies, the flexibility of the electrical system and the creation of innovative solutions for their customers. This ambitious plan contributes to EDP’s goal of becoming 100% green by 2030.
In turn, Norauto works every day to reduce their environmental impact through their Sustainable Development Plan. All the electric power contracted by the company comes from 100% renewable sources, and it is also progressively installing LED lighting in all its Autocenters. In this sense, Norauto has the ISO 14001 Environmental Management standard as a result of this commitment to the environment. In addition, the company is installing charging points for electric vehicles, precisely to facilitate a more environmentally friendly mobility within their ‘Car Driver & Responsible’ commitment.
