Petroprix and EDP will deploy the largest network of ultra-fast recharging points with batteries for electric vehicles in Spain
The agreement begins with the installation of chargers in 44 petrol stations and may expand to all 135 of the Spanish fuel operator's network and the 35 new openings planned for this year.
Petroprix, Spain's leading network of pay-at-the-pump petrol stations, has reached an agreement with the energy company EDP, world leader in renewable energies, to launch the largest infrastructure of ultra-fast recharging points with batteries for electric vehicles in Spain.
The agreement, signed last December, will enable a quick installation of the chargers, ending with the barriers to the availability of electrical power in some areas. In order to achieve this, Petroprix gives EDP access to its more than 135 petrol stations, distributed all over the Spanish geography, constituting a strategic network, thanks to its close location to urban centers.
EDP and Petroprix will install dual charging points, that allow to fuel two cars at the same time with a total power of up to 250 kW, to distribute between the two vehicles – that is, 150 kW and 100 kW respectively. Chargers will be connected to the electrical grid with a lower power (60 kW) and the batteries incorporated will be getting charged while no vehicles are plugged. This ensures ultra-fast recharging of the car regardless of the power available from the grid.
EDP contemplates the possibility of expanding its agreement with Petroprix, through the 35 new openings programmed for his year, or extending it to the already existent stations (135), proving one more time its strong commitment to give an easier and quicker access to the recharge of electric vehicles, boosting, in turn, the consumption of a cleaner and more sustainable energy.
In this sense, the director of Sustainable Mobility of EDP Spain, Javier Martínez Ríos, has pointed out that “the ultra-fast network is very much needed to ensure the necessity charge and the mobility in long trips. On the other hand, the charging time at 150 kW enables to continue traveling in less than 20 minutes, something important in this type of recharges. For both these reasons, we consider that the stations of Petroprix are perfect, as they are located in areas that have today a great fuel demand.”
Meanwhile, the director of Business Development of Petroprix Energy, Jaime Vega de Seoane, explaints that “the cutting-edge technology applied by EDP to these chargers, complements perfectly with the one that has been developed by our company for 10 years in order to satisfy the demands of the Spanish drivers, and have the fastest and most efficient refuels of the sector. This synergy will solve the problem of adaptability of the needed power so that our stations provide competitively this service, and so that we achieve a greater speed of implementation of these charging points in all our stations network.”
With this agreement, EDP continues to expand its infrastructure network of electric recharge points in different areas, proving its strong commitment to continue expanding this network, in which Spain already counts with 1350 points, and in 2022 reached almost 70 000 charges, equivalent to traveling more than 7 million kilometers in electric vehicle, avoiding the emission of more than 575 tons of CO2. The charging points will be added to Move On, EDP’s innovative app, that allows to manage the use of charging installations easily and quickly, and that recharged in 2022 almost 1 500 000 kWh.
