The SEPA invests in energy efficiency
The fire station in Cangas de Onís is debuting. The Emergency Services of the Principality of Asturias (SEPA) has just substituted the lightnings in its installations with other more efficient ones, with LED technology. This renovation, made by EDP, implies a double saving, as it involves a reduction in energy consumption and in environmental impact.
The counsellor of Presidency and Citizen Participation of the Government of the Principality of Asturias, Guillermo Martínez, got to know the lightning renovation project in the same installation, accompanied by the director of Energy Efficiency Services of EDP Spain, José Alonso Uría. Both of them have highlighted the importance of energy efficiency as a bet for present and future, that allows to be sustainable and at the same time generates significant economic savings.
The renovation project in the fire station in Cangas de Onís consisted of the substitution of 117 conventional lightnings for other new, efficient and with LED technology. The operation conducted by EDP will allow for a larger and better lightning of the installations, as well as savings of 80% of energy consumption and the avoidance of 10 tons of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.
The investment made by the SEPA in this project will be recovered, with the savings generated in consumption, in barely one year of operating of the new installation. The organism expects to extend this energy efficiency project to other installations of their competence.
Lightning is a relevant part of the energy bill of companies, which can account for up to 50% of consumption. EDP offers different solutions in this respect, with actions aimed at improving energy efficiency. Thus, the company develops tailored efficient lightning projects to reduce the energy bill, with a financing of 100%. The company has already conducted different efficient lightning projects all around Spain.
Another solution that EDP provides to businesses is the innovative program Save to Compete, which allows the increase of competitivity through energy efficiency. The program consists of three steps: a free energy diagnosis report, an energy audit, and a project proposal. Through Save to Compete, EDP provides part or all of the investment for the development and implementation of the project, becoming partners with the client for the convened period.
