Users of the EDP points recharge the energy needed to travel more than 4 million kilometers
The increase of recharged energy, compared to the one from the same period last year, is of 66%
Electric mobility continues to be unstoppable, specially with the recharging facilities’ boost, following the new regulation that establishes the obligation to install public access electric vehicle charging points before January 1, 2023 in every kind of location, like companies with parking lots.
The first semester of 2022, EDP has registered more than 43 000 electric vehicles’ recharges. All EDP’s charging points together – 400 of which in public access spaces, and 250 being private –, operated by EDP through the platform MOVE ON, have recharged almost 612 000 kWh of energy. That implies 66% more than in this same period in 2021. Moreover, it is equivalent to travelling 4 080 220 – that is, the longest driving distance in the world – 14 043 km between Sagres (Portugal) and Khasan (Rusia), 290 times. Furthermore, the emission of 402 tons of CO2 would be avoided.
In the charging points for EDP’s vehicles with public access, drivers have recharged 63% of energy, while in private use points, installed and operated by EDP (250), the energy charged was 37% of the total. The most used public access charging point is located in Madrid.
To promote the use of electric vehicles, to ensure people the recharges in their journeys, and to contribute to the improvement of the environment, are some of EDP’s priorities, which strategy is to provide electrical vehicles’ users the necessary facilities to recharge their cars in their trips. Currently, recharging in EDP’s points, the driver of an electrical vehicle that leaves A Coruña can go all the way through the Cantabrian coast and till France, without needing to enter a city. What is more, EDP has been the first company to link Asturias and Madrid with the charging points needed to ensure the recharges during the trip.
In order to start up these points, the energy company has achieved agreements with different entities, such as city councils or service stations, aiming to boost electric mobility. EDP has also established partnerships with private companies like GMP, real estate agency that counts with 68 recharge points located in Madrid; or with Ahorramas, local supermarket chain, with the installation of a total of 450 recharge points, located in parking lots and in the company’s offices.
EDP’s running of these points is carried out through the platform MOVE ON, an innovative app that allows to manage the use of recharge installations easily and quickly.
Sustainable mobility is key to EDP, that has the ambition to reach 3 000 public charging points in the Iberian Peninsula by the end of 2022. It is one of the issues that will have the bigger impact in the energy sector and will be essential for the decarbonization of transport. The company also offers “MiVe”, a full service of electric mobility that may be configured by the client, that covers the installation and maintenance of points, the recharges at home and in public access areas, as well as the vehicle's transfer or the assistance in case of incidents when charging.
