masymas engages with energy saving with the start up of its first self-consumption installation in Asturias
The installation, carried out by EDP, will enable to save each year 25% of electric consumption in its Integral Logistic Platform
Supermarkets maysmyas (Hijos de Luis Rodríguez) has just inaugurated its first photovoltaic installation for self-consumption in Asturias. The plant, carried out by EDP, is located in the roof of its Integral Logistic Platform, in the Polygon of Silvota, and will enable to save each year more than 25% of its electric consumption.
The installation has a power of 498 kWp and has 1 500 photovoltaic panels, which will be able to capture solar energy and transform it into electricity, equivalent to the average annual consumption of 140 households (494 000 kWh).
The energy saving is linked to the supermarket chain’s commitment with the environment’s protection, one of its strategic priorities. Self-consumption through this plant will avoid the annual emission of 202 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, which translates into a positive impact, similar to the one that would have 15 000 new trees.
The rest of the energy consumed by the Integral Logistic Platform will be supplied by EDP, within the agreement kept by both companies. This Platform counts with more than 25 000 square meters, and it is where masymas manages, stores and distributes the products that arrive to more than 150 000 families.
This facility reinforces the supermarket chain’s commitment with the environment protection, one of its strategic priorities.
Pelayo Pulgar, director of Expansion and Development of masymas, indicated that “the annual emission of 292 540kg of CO2 into the atmosphere will be avoided, the equivalent to driving more than 1 260 000 km with a combustion vehicle. With a total investment of 350 000€, the photovoltaic plant will cover more than a 26% of the annual electricity consumption of the logistic platform”.
To EDP Spain, “self-consumption represents one of the energy solutions that favors competitivity between enterprises through savings and efficiency, at the same time that it contributes to protection and the care of the environment. From EDP we offer this type of integral and innovative solutions, adapted to each need, so that our customers benefit from all the advantages offered since the first day”.
Supermarkets masymas will control the installation through the access to a management system, which will allow to know at anytime and in real time, the energy generated by the photovoltaic plant, as well as the consumption carried out in its Logistic Platform.
This photovoltaic installation for self-consumption is the second that masymas launches with EDP, after having been operational in February in the plant that both companies installed in the store of Villaquilambre, in Leon.
Self-consumption is one of the energy solutions with the biggest saving potential for households, as well as for companies and industries. Moreover, it has a positive impact and boosts economy and employment. In the case of the masymas installation, ten employees of the Isastur enterprise have participated.
