Six finalists in the EDP Foundation's 'Public Art' competition to improve the center of Tineo
The 'Public Art' competition aims to highlight art as a tool for social transformation, innovation and the creation of social value among young people.
The EDP Foundation has announced the six finalists for the second ideas competition of “Arte Público” (Public Art), a contest intended for Art, Design and Architecture students, aiming to promote interdisciplinary art and architectural design projects that entail projecting and reactivating Art in the rural world as an instrument towards development, the improvement of innovation and social inclusion.
In this second edition of the contest, the space suggested for the intervention is the square of Tineo’s town hall, and the proposed projects should incorporate the conclusions of the citizenship participation process, open to the neighbors of Tineo in February of this year. This way, students have had a basis of citizen proposals in order to develop a better work and define their urbanistic intervention models in the square and the environment.
The six preselected projects correspond to students of Architecture of the University of Granada; Architecture and Fine Arts of the University of Granada; Architecture of the University of A Coruña; Architecture of the University of Zaragoza; Architecture and Sustainable Intervention of the Superior Technical School of Architecture of Vallés, in the Polytechnical University of Cataluña; and the Ephemeral Architecture of the Art School of Oviedo.
The projects coincide in generating a versatile, welcoming space for citizens that promotes intergenerational social inclusion with areas for markets, games, meetings and recreational activities.
This contest, that will enable students to put into practice their idea to renovate Tineo’s town hall square, placing the youngsters as the main characters, counts with three prices for the better ideas: the first, that will be executed, is of 14 000 euros, the second with 2 000 and the third with 1 000.
A jury of experts with renowned prestige in the urbanism, architecture and design fields, will select the best out of the finalists and will announce the winner on December 16 at a public event at the Casa de Cultura of Tineo, which will be attended by representatives of the Government of the Principality of Asturias, neighborhood associations and the municipalities of Tineo and Ribera de Arriba, where the winning project of the first edition of Public Art is being developed.
