‘Run like never before’ is the motto for the only half marathon in Spain to have an IAAF Gold Label

The Half Marathon Valencia Trinidad Alfonso EDP begins this Sunday, October 22, its most ambitious edition, under the motto ‘Run like never before’, in a date in which 14 200 people are already registered, and a team of elite athletes fight to beat the records of the Valencian circuit.

The 21 km race sponsored by EDP in Valencia has celebrated in its official presentation its first record of 2017, with more than 14 200 runners registered for the race, 700 more than in the last edition, confirming thus the increase of participants coming from outside Spain (22 % of the total) and from abroad (14%). Women represent 23 % of the participants, being 3 323 in total.

The official presentation of the first race to obtain the IAAF Gold Label in Spain was held in the Marina de Empresas, next to the finish line of the 21 097 meter circuit, with the participation of the president of the SD Correcaminos, organizer of the Half Marathon Valencia, Paco Borao; the Sport and Health Councilor of the Ajuntament de València, Maite Girau; the director of the Foundation Trinidad Alfonso, Elena Tejedor; apart from other representatives of Valencian clubs and sponsors and collaborators of the Half Marathon, that added this year the EDP energy company as official sponsor.

During the interventions in the presentation, Paco Borao has highlighted that “we are facing the most ambitious edition due to the team of elite athletes that have chosen our race to make themselves even better-known in the world”. He also mentioned the fastest runners of this edition, Abraham Cheroben, and the women’s world record, Joyciline Jepkosgei, that will be in the starting line, together with another group of African runners with great personal bests. Lastly, he has ensured that Valencia has already broken its first record. “More than 14 200 people have already registered”, and he underlined that the number of runners “does not stop growing and makes us consider new challenges”.

Maite Girau, Sport and Health Councilor of the Ajuntament de València, has assured that “the Half Marathon Valencia highlights the importance of our city in the whole world”, highlighting that “it is the only half marathon with an IAAF Gold Label and that places us in the spotlight “. Lastly, the Councilor of the Ajuntament, has celebrated that “more and more women run and do it in this type of distances”, referring to the increase of women’s presence in the race.
