Celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3)

More than 2,000 runners enrolled in the platform compartetuenergia.com (Share Your Energy) of energy company EDP, celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This social and sports initiative connects people who are blind or severely visually impaired, who are fond of running, with runners who can be their guides, to train and participate in races.

The online platform received more than 140,000 visits since its launch at the end of May and reached the International Day with 2,000 registrants from all regions of Spain. Florencio and José Benito or María José and Ana Lucía are two examples of almost a hundred pairs who already train and run together.

Ana Lucia Santiago, blind runner of "Share your Energy", explained: "Comparte Tu Energía changed my life. Since I found this initiative of EDP I signed up, everything has been advantageous. Not only do I feel that I am more autonomous, but I have met wonderful people who share my love of running. Once registered, the platform put me in contact with María José, Marcos, Eva ... who are now my guides and with whom I train for different races". And she says: "I encourage all the running fans to enter compartetuenergia.com and start sharing energy and experiences".

The managing director of EDP ña, Javier Sáenz de Jubera, recalls: "On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we want to continue to break down the barriers that people with sensory disabilities have to face. The lack of vision should not prevent anyone from enjoying the sport. "

Share your energy with the support of the world and European marathon champion, Martin Fiz, and the blind international athlete, Pablo Cantero. Both are the protagonists of the presentation video of the initiative, where they run hand in hand and teach the tactics and tips to be guides. This video is on the platform, where it is reproduced with recognition technology that identifies if the user has his eyes closed, so that all people can watch it.

The objective of the initiative is to raise awareness in society so that all people can enjoy sports and make it easier for blind people to find runners who want to be their guides.
