APK2 and EDP, ahead of Madrid City Council's requirement and deploy a recharging network in public parking lots
The facilities extend to other 30 Spanish towns, with a total of 200 points of publish access.
APK2, lead firm in parking lots management, has allied with the energy company EDP for the launching of one of the biggest charging infrastructures for electric vehicles in Spain. With this agreement, they are ahead of the Madrid City Council's requirement for public parking lots to have recharging points by 2023.
The progress of this agreement has been presented in the APK2’s parking lot in the Plaza Oriente of Madrid. The event was attended by the Delegate of the Environment and Mobility Area of the Madrid City Council, Borja Carabante; the President of APK2, Cristian Abelló; the CEO of APK2, Fernando Pire; the Commercial Director of EDP, Miguel Fonseca; the Director of Sustainable Mobility of EDP Spain, Javier Martínez; and the General Director of AEDIVE, Arturo Pérez de Lucía.
APK2 and EDP’s plan began in 2020 and already has electric charging points in the 8 parking lots managed by APK2 in Madrid. Moreover, currently 23 parking lots in Spain also have ready the infrastructure of electric recharge.
By the summer of 2021, when the project is completed, all APK2 parking lots will have this infrastructure, which extends to more than 30 locations in Spain. The network in APK2 parking lots will then total 200 operational and accessible points for all drivers of electric vehicles.
These points are being installed in APK2 parking lots in Madrid, Barcelona, Sabadell, Tarragona, Castellón, Valencia, Villareal, Alicante, Torrevieja, Sevilla, Jerez, Granada, Marbella, Ronda, Almería, Baracaldo, Vitoria, Llodio, San Sebastián, Mondragón, Logroño, Segovia, Burgos, Albacete, La Coruña, Pontevedra, Oviedo, Gijón, Murcia, Cáceres y Tenerife.
APK2, the fastest growing parking management company in Spain, extends its commitment to sustainable mobility and, in order to facilitate access to clean energy, suggests an attractive offer to its rotation customers, who will have the first hour of recharging free of charge. The rest of the hours will have a reduced price.
It also provides for two recharging models for recurring customers who so request. The first model consists of a flat rate for recharging during different time slots at shared recharging points.
On the other hand, it will offer its customers the possibility of installing, for private use and in a reserved space, the recharging infrastructure, which will be supplied and commissioned by EDP, and which will also have a flat rate for recharging.
Finally, APK2, together with EDP, will also offer the possibility of installing a recharging point in any of the more than 16,000 resident parking spaces it manages. With this agreement, APK2 and EDP respond to the recharging needs of those drivers who do not have their own garage and have an electric vehicle. "From APK2 we are committed to sustainable mobility and proof of this is this agreement with EDP that will position us as one of the market leaders in electric charging points, while solving the lack of charging points in major cities where we are present," said Fernando Pire, CEO of APK2.
For EDP's Commercial Director, Miguel Fonseca, "this agreement reinforces our strategy around electric mobility, expanding the recharging network for drivers of this type of vehicle, and we do so hand in hand with a partner like APK2, a leader in parking management, which is committed to offering its customers a differentiating service that contributes to promoting and facilitating sustainable mobility".
The 200 new facilities will be integrated into the EDP Move On platform, from where users can manage their recharges. Among the functionalities of this application are the distance to the points, their availability and the type of connection they offer.
With this new infrastructure, EDP will have more than 400 recharging points in Spain, accessible to all electric vehicle users. In addition, and thanks to interoperability, the EDP Move On app allows recharging at more than 800 points throughout the country.
This initiative is part of EDP's Strategic Plan for the period 2021-2025. The company foresees investments of 24 billion focused on three main lines of action: growth in renewables, greater flexibility and intelligence of the distribution networks, and innovative solutions for its customers, including comprehensive mobility products and services, which is a priority for the company.
