The initiative of Fundación EDP, which will allocate 30,000 euros to various actions, allows energy improvements in the homes of vulnerable families

The headquarters of Cáritas in Santiago de Compostela was the stage of the signing of the collaboration agreement between Cáritas Santiago de Compostela, Ferrol and Ourense, and Fundación EDPt o develop "Energía Solidaria". Its objective is to identify households of vulnerable families and centers of Caritas where it is possible to implement efficiency measures that allow energy savings.

The collaboration agreement was signed by José Anuncio Mouriño, representative of Cáritas Diocesana de Santiago de Compostela; María Tabarés, representative of Cáritas Diocesana de Ourense; María Victoria González, representative of Cáritas Diocesana de Mondoñedo-Ferrol; and Vanda Martins, executive director of Fundación EDP.

This collaboration highlights the commitment of the Foundation to increase the safety, well-being and energy efficiency of the most vulnerable families and the Cáritas centers in Galicia. The actions carried out by Fundación EDP go through several phases, ranging from the identification of families and centers by Caritas to the implementation of saving measures and the evaluation and analysis of results.

For this, EDP energy professionals analyze the energy contracts of each family and center; they make a diagnosis and study each space; meet with each family and center to assess the measures and advise on the optimization of energy contracts; and conduct training workshops on good consumption habits and energy billing.

Among the improvements include the replacement of traditional luminaires with new ones with LED technology and replacement of boilers and radiators with more efficient ones. Fundación EDP will allocate 30,000 euros to develop this initiative in Galicia.

Fundación EDP also develops this initiative in Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and Madrid. In total, it plans to allocate more than 160,000 euros to Energía Solidaria this year. This investment effort will allow action, including Galicia, in 17 centers and in the homes of 76 families.

Since its launch in 2015, the EDP Foundation has allocated 437,000 euros to this initiative, with improvement actions that have benefited 22,500 people.
