The managers of EDP and BMW have met in the International Trade Fair of Asturias to analyze the possible collaborations in terms of sustainable mobility.

This meeting was attended by Rosa Martínez, CEO of Group Resnova and manager of Triocar; Francisco Domínguez, manager of BMW-I Spain; and José Alonso and Antonio González-Lamuño, directors of Energy Efficiency and New Businesses, respectively, of EDP Spain. All of them have agreed on the importance of promoting the use of vehicles of alternative energies, as well as the development of infrastructures that enable the recharges or refuel.

In the Fair itself, the pavilion of EDP counts with a charging point for electric vehicles, and with a 100 % electric BMW vehicle. Likewise, in the Triocar space there are both electric vehicles, that may by tried by those interested, and charging points, provided by EDP. Within its commitment with sustainable mobility and the use of vehicles of alternative energies in the region, EDP is going to launch the first ecostation in the north of Spain. It is an area which enables the refuel of vehicles driven both by natural gas and electric.

EDP has invested 400 000 euros in the construction and operation of this ecostation, located in Roces. It is open to public 24 hours a day, every day of the year, under a self-service system. Users may pay with card or through EDP’s loyalty plan, that may be requested to the company through the e-mail movilidadsostenible@edpenergia.es.

The use of electric vehicle involves multiple advantages, both environmental and economical. On the one hand, its use does not imply emissions nor noise pollution. Savings, in comparison to combustion vehicles, can be of up to 80 %. On the other hand, the efficiency of these vehicles is three times superior to that of combustion ones, being the maintenance cost much lower, in comparison with the conventional.

Natural gas is the fossil fuel that generates the least emissions. In relation to diesel, it reduces up to 80 % of the nitrous oxides’ emissions, while the sulfur oxides, and the particular matter are virtually non-existent. These environmental advantages are added to the significative saving in the fuel cost, around 40 % with respect to petrol, and 30 % to diesel, which makes natural gas a very advantageous fuel, especially for intensive consumption.

EDP’s commitment with sustainable mobility goes even further. Apart from the ecostation, the company has other ten charging points for electric vehicles in Asturias, and has been renewing its own fleet for years. It already has more than 100 vehicles of alternative energies. Likewise, it also counts with its own infrastructure of stations for the refuel of natural gas and charging points.
