The EDP Foundation presents the 15 selected projects in EDP Solidaria
Oviedo, head office of the EDP Foundation, has held this afternoon the presentation of the projects selected in EDP Solidaria 2016, that will receive in total an economic contribution of 400,000 euros for developing their social improvement proposals. The event was attended by the high positions of the EDP Foundation, Manuel Menéndez and Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, and of the EDP Group, as well as by the Counselor of Social Services and Rights of the Principality of Asturias, Pilar Varela Díaz.
It is the second edition of this initiative, that aspires to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of all people and the integration of the most disadvantaged ones. In this sense, EDP Solidaria has increased the number of selected projects with respect to 2015 (15 projects in 2016 as opposed to 11 last year) and has risen the economic contribution by 16%.
As Manuel Menéndez has highlighted, EDP Solidaria is an “innovative project for the support of social transformation” that responds to the objectives of the EDP Foundation, which is “committed to local communities in the achievement of society’s sustainable development”.
EDP Solidaria’s numbers show the increasing interest of this initiative, as a total of 49 proposals have been presented, of which 15 projects have been selected. According to geographical distribution, 6 belong to the Principality of Asturias, 4 to the Community of Madrid, 3 to the Basque Country, and one to Catalonia and Murcia, respectively.
The project selection committee was formed by managers from different areas of the EDP Group and the execution of them will be supervised by operators and volunteers from the company. The selected proposals are estimated to potentially benefit 17.262 people, as opposed to the 6.537 in 2015.

Manuel Menéndez announced that the total contribution will increase by 44%, reaching 575,000 euros, and he encouraged all associations to present new projects. The presentation period will be open from March 1 until March 31.
As general rule, the presented proposals must be linked to the most urgent social needs, like the support to socially disadvantaged people, the integration of communities in risk of social exclusion and the promotion of employment and entrepreneurship.
