The power company invested 50,000 euros in this new point of rapid recharge of electric vehicles, which is located in the public parking of the airport

EDP t up a fast charging point for electric vehicles at the Asturian Airport. This installation, the second with these features that enters into operation in Asturias, is the result of a collaboration agreement between JCDecaux, responsible for project management at the airport, and the energy company.

This new point of rapid recharge, in which EDP isted 50,000 euros, is added to the one that already exists in Gijón, in the eco-station of the energy company of Roces, where vehicular natural gas can also be refueled.

The Minister of Employment, Industry and Tourism, Isaac Pola, attended the presentation of the project and its implementation; the general director of Mining and Energy, Belarmina Díaz; the director of the Asturias Airport, Carlos Domingo San Martín; the director of the Asturian Energy Foundation, Juan Carlos Aguilera; the person in charge of Airports North zone of JCDecaux Spain, Asier del Val; and the director of Smart Home of EDP ña, Antonio González-Lamuño.

The head of Employment, Industry and Tourism, Isaac Pola, stressed that "the implementation of a point of rapid recharge of electric vehicles at Asturias Airport is to take a step further in meeting the set objectives of the energy model change linked to mobility in Asturias ". Pola stated "the important role of EDP he development of charging infrastructures put in place in recent months." He also highlighted "the importance of putting this facility into service from the point of view of enhancing the image of an Asturias committed to the environment." In this regard, he stressed, also, that "the possibilities opened to achieve sustainable mobility in a sector such as tourism are numerous and improve the competitiveness of the sector."

The representative of JCDecaux, Asier del Val, stressed: "We understand the airport as an environment in constant change, growth and evolution." This agreement is another step in JCDecaux's commitment to service cities and their users (which originated with the creation of the MUPI in 1970), and that advances at the pace of society as a sign of the use of electric vehicles and eco-sustainability policies ".

González-Lamuño, from EDP, stressed that "this agreement with JCDecaux reinforces EDP's commitment to provide Asturias with a wide network of rapid recharge, with facilities at strategic points, which complements the recharges made by users in their homes" .

The charging point is located in the public parking lot of the airport with power of 50 KW, which allows to recharge the vehicles in an estimated time of 20 minutes. The use of the installation can be done with the EDP lity card, which users can request through www.edpmoveon.es and on the freephone 900907000.

In addition to the 50,000 euros of investment that the new infrastructure entails, the agreement includes that EDP be responsible for the management, conservation and maintenance of the recharge point, and will make an annual contribution to promote sustainable mobility in the Asturian terminal.

The installation of this fast recharge point is part of the recharge network that EDP romoting at strategic points, which allows Asturias to have the necessary infrastructure to favor the use of the electric vehicle.

The use of this type of vehicle has multiple advantages associated, both environmental and economic. On the one hand, its use does not imply emissions or noise pollution. The savings, with respect to combustion vehicles, can reach up to 80%. On the other hand, the efficiency of these vehicles is three times higher than that of combustion, with a much lower maintenance cost.

Sustainable mobility is one of EDP's priorities. This is one of the areas that will most impact the energy sector and will be essential for the decarbonisation of transport, representing a growing percentage of car sales in the world.
